Closing credit card account and reapplying

Just wondering what experiences others have had after closing a credit card after the promotional period has finished. How long did you need to wait until you were able to reapply to the same bank to take advantage of any new promotions?
I thought that you had to wait a few months at the very least, but i phoned HBOS today and they said there was no waiting period.
Anyone else found that, or was i speaking to a newer member of staff perhaps?
Edit: I did press them on this saying that a friend had told me i may need to wait up to 6 months, but was assured if i didn't have an account already open, then it wouldn't matter when the last credit card account was closed.

I know that Capital One say you can't have even applied for one of their credit cards in the past 6 months when you apply for a new one. (it says so in this review http://!!!!!!/L02x, for e.g.) if that helps?0
