Jury Duty NI - Belfast to Dungannon

I've been called up to Jury duty but the location is in Dungannon and I live in Belfast. I wonder does this have any bearing on the fact I use to live in Omagh although I have been on the electorial register for a year in Belfast. Busing it back and forth to Dungannon everyday will be a nightmare. I do drive but my wife needs the car for work. Do I have to do this insane journey everyday?

Probably not every day unless you are selected for jury.

You'll be allocated a number and, after the first day of attendance, you'll be asked to ring a number after 5pm each day which will advise which numbers are required to attend the following day.

I would have thought that Dungannon wouldn't have the same volume of trials going on as Belfast (where I did my jury duty a couple of years ago) so that itself might influence how often you're lkely to need to attend.

When I was last on Jury duty I was called 2 or 3 days a week for 4 weeks, so you can probably expect that. You should ring the Jury office and ask why you've been selected for Dunganno though, worth a shot.

I know of people from Omagh who were called for jury service in Dungannon so perhaps there's an Omagh connection.

Theres plenty of buses from Belfast to Dungannon and you can claim the travel expenses and relax on the journey!

    Hi
The court service get a random selection from the register to use for jury selection once a year, just after the register is published on 1st December. You will have been selected from the register that was published last year so - if you were registered in Omagh then, thats why you have been chosen for Dungannon. At least you will be travelling against the heavy traffic both directions each day.

This makes sense since they sent me out a form around this time last year. I sent the form back with a change of address, it's obvious they have used last year's register to select me.

Dungannon to Belfast an "insane journey"?! As mentioned, it is a well serviced route so getting to and fro isn't really that difficult.
