Reclaiming Bank Charges - Is it a get out of Jail Free Card?

  • Well arent you lucky, you should consider yourself very fortunate that you havent incurred charges as a result of debt. Ok some people have only themselves to blame, but some of us like myself do not. I got in debt purely by having to pay legal fees over something I was right about. 3 years on I am still massively in debt, so dont you dare be so ignorant to assume that everyone on here is in debt because they are stupid

I don't need to reclaim my banks charges - I get loads of money from daddy

Well good for you. Clearly you don't have anything decent to spend it on or you wouldn't come on here under an AE. You sad sad person. I genuinely pity you. Hopefully one day you will find yourself a real friend and won't need to resort to such desperate measures for attention! :)

Sorry, it reads like you are saying some people got into debt because they are stupid! :o
  • I totally agree with you, but if the bank says to the DD receiver - sorry X has'nt got enough money to pay his bills so were not paying you. Are the DD receivers not going to start charging people? would'nt this cause bigger arguments?

I just wonder why its happening like it is? why is it not being sorted once and for all by the powers that be?[/QUOTE]

Unfortunately, not all banks pay them, In my experience, the bank has said no to the DD receiver and charged me £39.00 (they have not lost money apart from the cost of sending me a letter) The DD receiver has also charged for the DD not being honoured, and if you are really unlucky and the bank charge takes you into an unathorised overdraft you then get another charge of £28.00 , so in some cases you are actually getting charged three times at worst, twice at best.

Why is it not being sorted by the powers that be? Well up until now people I'm sure did not realise that the banks were charging amounts that they were not legally entitled to. Now there is more attention on the subject and people are taking action against it (and winning) then something may change. (ie Hopefully the banks will start to charge fair charges)

I have never had bank charges, but do not share the op's point of view. I am very careful with money, as my user name suggests. Inspite of this caution, I found myself in a very hard place financially when my marriage broke down. I thankfully just avoided charges, but could have been there. You can never predict what life will bring. I am naturally very good with money, I am not so good at keeping my weight under control. We all have different abilities and need to support each other.

I could have typed this one myself, my days of debt were when my marriage broke down and I am working on losing a few excess lbs. I can't remember the last time I paid bank charges either but I have spent quite a lot of time helping people who are not quite as organised with their money both get out of debt and claim back their excessive charges. Some one helped me when I was up the creek without a paddle and what goes around comes around.

There but for the grace I think, to the OP you can never know what life is going to throw at you and this is not the place to be smug or self righteous thank you very much.
