A PVR is for people who want to record video onto a small screened easily portable machine (like a video Ipod). Useful if you travel alot.
Unlike a video Ipod this one actually does the recording itself, so you just plug it into your sky box/freeview box and press record (I think it codes recorded video into MP4 and recorded audio into MP3). The machines got a 20GB hard drive so it will hold many many hours of video. Advertised battery life is 10 hours. Not sure if that's audio or video os it it even makes any difference! Screen size is 3.8".
I don't travel enough to use a gadget like this, but the feeling on the other forum was that this is a bargain at this price.

I've had a look round for cheaper alternatives before posting here. This is a downmarket sort of equivilent. Only 128MB of memory but expandable with SD cards (£69.99) http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/102507/rb/19883434897
Similarly, this has 256MB of built in memory but is again expandable (£58.74) http://www.ebuyer.com/product/100967/product_info/rb/19883488704

I had an AV560 until recently and my battery life was around 14 hours for audio and 4 for video so I presume the quoted life is for audio.0
