  • ok. HS challenge day 1!
I am currently BATTLING with myself. trying not to go buy a diet coke. I have 1.20 clutched in my paw - but I can't give in so quickly. Thumping headache and only three days left in this job (though they pay me til 31st hurrah) so lots to tie up/handover.

Will miss having my own office too! no more MSE during the day!!!

Do you ever get the feeling things are finally turning around, then get hit with a real negative.
After battling it out with O2 regarding their ridiculous customer 'service' they gave me £120 credit onto my bill. worth getting very angry!
Then i -oopps- went over my new 0% egg card limit by £50 in error and they said that i could no longer have 0% = aarggghhh even though i paid straight away
But (!) I wrote to egg saying that seemed harsh and i'd be forced to move elsewhere etc etc and they have reinsated 0% and refunded any interest incurred.
    Phew!!!
Then - in this month from money hell - I just got my debit statement and been charged £131 this month for interest and charges - ridiculous but entirely my fault. Could really have done without that given that i didnt get paid this month.
In the middle of switching current account to A&L to get 0% overdraft and close abbey debit but it is taking foreevvveer.
In other news I overpaid a credit card by £374. I asked them in early November to give my the money and close the account. Initially they said a cheque woud be sent out. After three weeks of waiting they said that they never give out cheques and nothing had been done. SO I requested the move to my new egg 0% credit card. Still hasnt happened. They are shut today but I am going to give them hell tomorrow. soo annoying and i know the oucome will be that they will now begin processing and i have to wait 14 days - it's my !!!!!!!g money.

£100 left in bank account til end jan. eek

    Hi there
I know this might not seem about the most helpful suggestion but can you not tell your husband? I am sure that he will not take it well but seeing as he has already helped you out and you have got back into the same situation then I don't think it is something you can manage on your own. There's no shame in that - some people are good with money and other aren't. It must be horrible for you to have this secret from him and I am sure that after the initial shock he would be supportive. Maybe you could put him in charge of the finances and be completely open with him in the future so that he can keep check of your spending? Not fun for you I know but much better than being in this situation. Then you could use the 10k to pay a lot of your debt off and you and your husband could work together to sort out the rest of it.
I know that there is no way I could keep this sort of secret from my husband and I would probably be worrying more about that than the debt. But I am not judging - everyone's relationships are different and if it isn't something that you feel you can do then that is understandable and I wish you the best of luck in getting everything sorted. And good luck with the diet coke addiction, I love the stuff too!!

hi and a belated welcome to the boards. I'm just wondering do you know how you've managed to increase your debts so quickly since you paid so much off? sitting down and listing what happened will help you sort out the things you need to tackle.
you should have a look on the normal DF board they're a daily thread called what small things have you done today, it helps keep you motivated and helps you realised that the little things really can help you change your ways and reduce the debt.
oh also many on here think that consolidation loans aren't the best thing, specially if you're the type of person who cannot give up credit cards and will then end up re using them and doubling your debt again (talking from experience here! took me three of the bo99ers to really see the light)
  • Hello Debt_cant_budgit, no advice just wanted to say Hi

  • hi good luck with the debt busting, if your husband knows about the one cc debt could you keep that amount back from the 10k and pay remainder off the mortgage(which is also a debt)? It is hard to admit to those you love when things go wrong however once its out in the open you will have the support from your family aswell as us.

  • cheers me dears for all the messages.:D

snowmoredebt - that is the plan re:the inheritance money.

    Intergalatic Floozie - Hello!

Lemon Tree - In terms of how i racked up the debt so quickly again (7k in 6months) ust by buying v.v expensive food, wine (£15+ bottles) going out and pretending the debts didnt exist! plus got into the trap of paying big min repayments and supplementing income with ccs etc etc.
I wont be doing the whole loan thing for now - seems to tie you in for a long time.

    dib-dab - see below ;)

beat the debt - diet coke is more addicive than anyhing else i know! however: none christmas day, half can boxing day, none 27th and none today (not leaving the house and none here!).x x x That is seriously big breaking news in my world - my £6 a day habit is gone!!!:T

I wont be telling my husband for now - it does give me a lot of extra stress sneaking around but i'm no ready to tell yet. I probably will have to eventually but i would love to have got rid of some of it first. Plus he will just bail me out, lovely but pointless for my mentality. I need to learn how to NOT spend & how to pay back debt on my own terms for a bit. I think the only way i won't get into debt again is having the pain of actually paying it back myself.

Once everything is clear i'll be getting a joint account and have nothing in my own name - that way it will be impossible for me to go back to this state.

Because i didnt get paid this month my hub transferred £900 to my account without even asking me but i will need it to cover the bills. I have an extra £86 coming from my old work (expenses payment) and new work pay at completely different time (15th of the month) which may booger up my direct debit timings but might mean i get a half salary in January. ALternativey it could mean I have o wait til mid Feb !!!

HAve multiple invites to go on nights out/to gigs/out for dinner etc and fending them off - people dont seem to take the "skint" excuse very seriously.... ANyone else fighting off very social mates?!:p

Hope you're all doing well over Christmas.

  • ooo forgot - signed up to new pension (with new work) and went for the highest contribution possible so that might be a big whack each month but if I put in 8% they put in 9%. plus will save a bit on NI as well as tax :-)
