Is there a family member you could approach for something short term?

Its a bit difficult to suggest anything when you dont give your circumstances. If you are on income support or other certain benefits you could apply to them for a loan for funeral clothing perhaps.

Did your father in law leave a will, and are you the executor - and is there any money/savings in his estate ?

Banks can release a certain amount of cash from the estate to the executor to pay for funeral expenses before any formal probate process is undertaken.

The Social Fund is not just for claimants. If you have an emergency and are unable to borrow and you have the means to repay they may well help.

  • I don't think there are many places that you would get a loan of £500 at a low APR. The small loans are normally the dearest.

If it is just to get clothes to wear to the funeral, surely a family member could help out.
In spite of the cost of living, it’s still popular

If you can't get a loan, there are things you can do for funeral clothes.

Men's basic black suit from George at Asda = £25

Most kids have black trousers/skirts for school anyway, but if not Asda also do black school trousers between £2-4

A packet of black Dylon dye will set you back about £3 if worst comes to worst.
