Hiya,
I had a look through but couldn't see the answer to my question, I thought some of you nice people might know!
I wanted to buy a stilton in a ceramic pot for a christmas present. Does anyone know whether it will be OK to keep it out of the fridge for a few days while it is transported to another house and placed under the tree? If I say 'please can I put this present in the fridge' it will arouse suspicion and the person I'm buying it for will be bound to guess what it is!!
Thanks

I've bought cheese (including stilton) as a present before and I generally find it needs to be kept somewhere cool, but not necessarily the fridge. Could you leave it in an unheated car, or somewhere like a garage or shed, rather than putting it under the tree in a warm house until present opening time?
If you don't want to give the game away you could do this and suddenly 'remember' on Christmas morning that there's one more present you haven't bought inside yet.Back after a very long break!0 -
I'm with CCP - and I've found the boot of a car a really good cool hiding place - be careful if we have some hard frosts mind, it could get very chilly in the boot of a car. I would suggest that if you put it under the tree in a warm house for more than say, half an hour, everyone will be able to guess what's in the box just by the smell!0

It can't go under the Christmas tree. My SIL bought us some and didn't mention it. When the pot was opened, the cheese nearly climbed out on it's own....0

Thanks guys for the helpful advice and amusing mental images! I'm going to my OH's (rather posh) parents for christmas and can just imagine their faces when presented with a cheese that actually climbs out to greet them! I think I will try the garage...0

I remember finding a jar of Christmas Stilton in the fridge the following August. Catiously, I opened it. Yes it leapt out the jar at us but it was still extremely tasty!Val.0
