mad-mum wrote:Also although you get your hair cuts quite cheaply there are some hairdressers who will do it almost for nothing if you go as a model for their trainees. No you do not have to be beautiful etc ( which of course you may be!) it is your hair they are interested in. I have been doing this for years and I have never had any problems as they are properly supervised.
Good luck.
Good tip mad-mum - I put my name forward as a model at a salon and was told that if they were to accept me I had to be flexible about what they did to my hair. I have long hair and wasn't willing to risk coming out with short, spikey hair cos I like hiding my ears! Do you think other salons who are after models will allow you to choose what style you want?0 -
Have a look at the thread for tesco misprices - I only started 2 to 3 weeks ago and have already had about £60 of free meat. (not being too greedy - half is going into my daughter's freezer as she is really struggling too). Also see if anything you are swapping like insurance or phones etc can be done through quidco to get some cashback£2 saver club £16 so far!! - it's growing!!! :j

I have long hair and yes you do have to be flexible to some extent but it is your hair and the trainees are supposed to be learning to do whta the customers want.
At once place I went to they were only too glad to have someone with long hair. I used to have it trimmed then french plaited. Oftern being plaited more than once as they all wanted a go . Bliss as I love having my hair done.
Now more usually I am having my hair coloured, they prefer not to just repaet the same colouring each time but it is my choice. The only thing they do do which I do not like is they always want to straighten my hair at the end but so what I always wash it the next day anyway so it is a temporary thing so I let them do it.The £2 Coin Savers Club = £96.00 joined 25/05/06

£20 for cat food seems high. I have 2 cats and they quite happily share a large 950g box of biscuits a week on average at a cost of around 95p a week. If thats all they have that costs me £4 a month. I get JS/Asda/Tescos own or a branded one if on offer. Occasional treats as well but generally thats all they have and they do fine on it.
If it is getting tough you need to rethink your food, hair and social bdget too. There are savings to be made here as others have pointed out already. You will get through this.

Hope you're feeling a bit better now. My advice:
Rent - yes, it's high, but on the other hand, I've seen higher for one-bedroom places (presume that's what you've got). As you've paid the deposit, it's unlikely you'll be able to get out of it, so I suggest leaving it for now, getting your head together, and looking for somewhere else in 6 months or so.
Pet insurance: probably could get it a lot cheaper if you don't want to cancel. xThe PDSA will help if your animals get sick anyway.
Definitely switch your phones - I've been using 18185 or one of the others for over a year, and my typical monthly bill including line rental is £15,a nd that includes a lot of overseas calls. Because your broadband is so expensive, the TalkTalk deal might be good for you, but you'd need to check the cost if you were to move - could you take it with you or would you have to pay the connection fee again?0 -
Would you be entitled to any Working Tax Credit on that income or any housing benefit?
The other thing I have noticed is the food bill. Is that £100 for one person? I manage to feed me and 2 children on £42 per month. Look at the Old Style board for tips of how you can reduce your food bill.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -
