Help re steam generator iron

Have a Tefal GV7150 steam generator iron that I am really pleased with.
Rinsed boiler yesterday as red light came on, did this twice as per instructions. Since then I am having intermittent staining - looks llike limescale marks on clothes. Have had to put about 6 items back in wash. Will be ok for a few items then next shot of steam leaves a stain. Any ideas please? have rinsed boiler once before and did not seem to get this problem.

My steam generator does this too. The only thing which seems to help is to use water which has been filtered with a Britax jug or similar. I started doing this because when I googled it some time ago, some sites suggested that London water had microscopic particles in it which over time caused this staining and filtering would help. Don't know if this could also be a problem where you live?

Mine does this too. It's minute particles of limescale, I think. I now only use water from the dehumidifier or reverse osmosis water from DH's fishtank, as that is completely pure.

I found with mine (which is a different make), that I had to swirl it round and shake it out several times, and this seemed to do the trick. What happens when you rinse out the boiler is that you disturb the sediment in the bottom and then it floats around just waiting to be shot out onto your clothes. Hugely annoying!

My BIL told me (and he's usually right about this sort of thing) that you can also use the water from a condensing tumbler dryer.
  • Oh, guess I now need to buy a britax jug. Is it ok to filter a supply of water then leave it it bottles for when I need it for the ironing?
