I can't recommend a good home organisation book, but i can tell you an OS way of making your own. What I do is I purchase a £1 page a day diary from Poundland and I write EVERYTHING in there. The night before each day I write all the tasks I hope to complete on the following day.
I use it to record No Spend Days too and i even had a free vistaprint stamper made (paid postage only) that says NO SPEND DAY in bright red. LOL!
So every day that is a NSD gets a bright red stamp and it's easy for me to count up how many days of each day/week I am spending or not spending, as the case may be. This helps me to see clearly where I am overspending as quite often, if i don't record my spends I forget about them and get a shock when I view my bank statement online!
There are almost always extra pages for 'notes' in the £1 diary, so on these I write my budget, my incomings and my expenditures, I also keep a note of the best supermarket prices on items i buy quite regularly. If I have enough room I also keep a record of the contents of my freezer etc.
I keep my diary on the worktop in the kitchen because I once put it away (which translates to - mislaid it somewhere) and couldn't find it/use it for about 2 months. My purse really suffered for it and i became extremely disorganised. This really helps keep me on track and is very OS too IMO.
Hope this helps.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

p.s. forgot to say, I also use the diary to keep me on track about when the MOT and car tax is due and when non direct debits have to be paid etc and also to keep me aware of appointments, birthdays etc.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

I am sure that similar can be done on the computer, with calendar and other works programmes that would be a Non spend? Perhaps some one younger! than me could direct you as to how to do it! I am good on the internet completely self taught as is often the case with my age- just call me google queen! However am just learning about all the tools on outlook to set tasks and send reminders etc. I really must do the ECDL course I bought!
My DH is much better than me on works, outlook etc. but I will beat him hands down on finding info on the net. Problem is I think the masculine side of my brain hates taking guidance off my DH and (although I am female) it is like I am a man and won't admit I am lost!
Think my new years resolution will be to get more organised, I have books with lists, but need a list to find all my lists! I do like my Dairy Diary though I find others get misplaced, but somehow the Dairy Diary doesn't - I though it was the bright cover, so I bought a cheap one the other year and covered it in bright wrapping paper, but I still lost it! Yes I am disorganised, but I keep trying.0 -
I am like Katholicos in that I use a M&S kitchen diary (a christmas pressie last year & so good that I've asked for another one) for everything. With 4 children there's always something going on with school/college/extra activities and dentist & hospital appointments :rotfl:. All the children & DH know to check the diary before agreeing to anything. I've also asked for a PoundLand A4 size bound book this year to record any thrifty/OS tips in and any ideas I get & if they'll work or not.
As for books about OS lifestyles have a look in your local library and try some of the thrifty cookery books & hints & tips books. Get the librarian to search their system (or do it yourself online if you're a member) for 'Thrifty' and loads comes up! Then you can try them before you buy them so saving money on books that you won't use :money:0 -
Hi tinkerbellsmum,
These threads may help:
Home Management notebooks/journals etc
Moggins household manual - hope that's ok?

Also l'm planning to fill one in with a page on each room in our house listing how many litres of paint used to decorate it, window sizes etc.
It's handy when you need to re-decorate especially if you wallpaper (l don't - too much trouble scraping off) and can't remember how many rolls you need.
Happy moneysaving all.0 -
I would like to add my voice to the page a day diary brigade - I find it the most useful of all.
If you want to look on the net, then Organized Home has lots of brillo ideas and you can print out lists and reminders, though all these American sites do make me feel like a disorganised !!!!!! who never does anything - but if you like tick lists, it's the one for you!0 -
