Windows 7 upgrade for £19.95 if bought with netbook!

Just bought an Acer net book from John Lewis in Milton Keynes - their product code is 230676457.

I'd been researching for a while, and have always liked JL for great service and a free two year warranty. This laptop is available elsewhere for the same sort of price, but the best deal is the availability of Windows 7 Home Premium, upgrade version for £19.99! Although the net book is not powerful enough for the upgrade, I’ve bought it to upgrade another XP PC we have at home. I already have Windows 7 home premium, and it’s a huge step up from XP. The assistants had to search as they weren’t sure this offer was available in store, but, bless them, they found the code, and hey presto, Windows 7 for less than £20 – that’s even cheaper than the MS student offer of £30 I was going to get my son at uni to organise.

update - added to header - sorry for confusing folk - good deal though if you're in the market for a netbook. By thea way, it will run the upgrade if that's what you want - the offer only appears to be for this netbook on the JL website.

Other vendors are doing this to ensure the stock of their existing Vista / XPP machines are not left on the shelves ... HP have the same deal - well, actually free of charge with £20ish "handling fee" where it ships from a marketing agency in Germany...

so ... if the spec / deal you want doesn't match the OP, ask the W7 question anyway!!

I feel that the "upgrade" is just a different decor. Is there any real technical reason to upgrade? does it run more efficiently/quicker..?

Isn't the disk model specific for your laptop, so will not install on another computer?

I think the OP should definately amend the title as it is very misleading :rolleyes:

If you don't know how to edit it, PM a board guide and they will do it for you.

perhaps if the thread is reported as "expired"...after all....there isn't any real benefit to the post....I came on looking for my £19.95 upgrade as well....doh!
