Tax Rebate?

Options
Hello,

Sorry for the possibly silly question but I think I may be due a tax refund and wondered if anyone would be able to let me know!

Basically this year my PAYE employment this tax year has been:

2 small jobs @ £200 each in July - Tax code BR
3 months (Aug, Sept, Oct) @ £18k pa - one month taxed at BR and 2 on 647LX
Now permanent job @ £19421 - 1st pay packet tax code was 674lX but new tax code is 647L which will kick in Dec paypacket.
I have phoned HMRC but they couldnt give me any idea.

Hope this make sense and thanks for your help in advance - am due to complete on a house in Jan so am hoping to get a few extra pennies :-)

Cheers,
Sara

  • Your total gross earnings for the period are

    £400
    £4500
    £8092
    Total - £12992

According to ListentoTaxman you should have paid
    Tax - £1303
    NI - £800

at the end of the tax year (April 5th). If you have paid more than this (which is very likely with those BR codes - emergency tax codes) then you will get a rebate.

Ah right, thank you. I was hoping once the 647L code kicks in I would have recieved the refund.
    Roll on April then :-)
    Thanks again!

Once the tax office have issued a cumulative tax code and previous pay and tax details to your current employer, then your tax due will be recalculated and any overpayment of tax will be rebated to you in your pay from your current employer.
Take no notice of any figures from listentotaxman it will only give correct figures either for the full year or for a month's earnings when you earn aprox the same amount every month of the year. Your earnings are not like this so do not fit in with its way of working tax an NI.
Check with your pay office that a cumulative code has been issued and if you want to give exact pay and tax figures your correct tax possition can be worked out.

Ooh that sounds more promising - cheers for the info!
Hopefully I will get something in Dec's wage then :-)
