suggestions for christmas party / buffet food - homemade
artichoke

hi all
we have decided to have a party for friends and their children the saturday before christmas...
can anyone give suggestions for how i could make the food (rather than buy ready made)....
i don't want to spend a fortune - and am prepared to mix shop bought with home made if cheaper.....
i am thinking of doing a large gammon for sliced meat, home made bread rolls, a cheese board, some mini yorkshire puds with beef and creamy horseradish in, potato wedges,
but i will do some cheating - like buying frozen pastry and vol-avont cases etc...
does anyone have suggestions for what to put in vol-a vont cases? both meat and vegetarian suggestions?
and any other suggestions for party food on the cheap welcome...
puddings will be homemade mincepies traybake , chocolate and cranberry traybake slices, rocky road traybake...etc
it is the main courses and vegetarian bits that i am struggling for ideas...
thanks

when we do something like this we make it really easy......quiches bought when on offer, salad, coleslaw, an oven full of jacket potatoes then a couple of big pots of toppings such as beef stew/chilli/curry etc. Can all be done in advance, not much messing about and dead tasty!!0

I'm having a party like this - I'm going a home made chilli with spuds (or rice) some veggie curry and then getting nibbles from the supermarket. But my friend had a great party where he made mexican food - there were ensaladas (sp) that everyone loved, and wedges, natchos and spicey rice and stuff like that - it was really great and he ssays really cheap!0

In Vol-au vents I love a bit of lettuce, some prawns and some marie rose sauce - a mini prawn cocktail, yum! My children love cheese and pineapple finely chopped in them.Slimming World - 3 stone 8 1/2lbs in 7 months and now at target :j0

You could put in a bit of veggie sausage and make mini toad in the holes? I seem to remember maybe Quorn making cocktail sized sausages once upon a time but not sure if they still do as I'm not veggie any more
