As the title says have been having a discussion on this.
I have Freesat+ from Sky and pay nearly £10 a month but a friend insists that if I buy a Freesat+ box I will get the same channels and facilities without subscription. But will I? For example do you get Channel 5 on Freesat? I get it on Freesat from Sky?
Confused.

also if you go into the freesat menu.you have an option to SCAN ALL SATELLITES, this gives you a vast array of channels to choose from, which you can either keep or not keep.hope it helps.

If I understand correctly, you are receiving the non-sub Sky channels, but you are paying £120 a year to maintain the use of the recording and playback facilities of the Sky+ box? Crazy.
Why not just ditch Sky, get a Freesat PVR (Humax Foxsat PVR is my choice), then use Freesat to get virtually the same channel line up? Once you've paid for the PVR, it's free forever. No free lunch, and no free laptop

From https://www.freesat.co.ukWe're the digital TV service from the BBC and ITV. We'll entertain you with over 140 digital TV and radio channels, and treat you to free HD. There's no subscription and no monthly bills to pay. HD digital boxes are available from as little as £68.0 -

You understand correctly.
As has been mentioned, unless there's some specific channel you want from the free Sky channels, go out and get yourself a Freesat PVR.
The box of choice is the Humax at £240, but there are now cheaper alternatives.
You'll recoup your initial outlay in a couple of years, with the added benefits of being able to watch the HD channels too. Admittedly they're limited at the moment and of course that's assuming you have an HD ready TV.
No bias here as I'm a current Sky subscriber.

Thanks all of you, will look at getting one of these boxes when we have had a years subscription as I think this was the minimum subscription.
