I'm here as well - briefly. DD has flown the nest  and bought herself a new house. We have spent the last two weeks moving her in, so only been able to pop in here for the odd 'lurk'. Thanks for the comp link PP, have entered and been told I am a 'Free Spirit'. If I win I will send you a postcard icon7.gif. Thanks to, to Sher for updating the frontpage posts.

Have a Merry Christmas everyone and take care in the snow :santa2:

Good morning everyone from a frosty Chester - forced to be up early to go to Mum's to take her to doctor - pavements look icy - wish me luck. After taking her home am going for a forage around the shops.

  • Went to Aldi yesterday to pick up most of my fruit and veg for the next week and got some great bargains. Then went on to Tescos to use up my £10 off £60 Waitrose and a £5 off £50 F Foods and was horrified by some of their fruit and veg prices  (and quality)

I have just compared prices from my receipt and Tescos website:

    ...........................Aldi .............Tescos
    Swede x2 ..............58p............... 1.78
    carrots x4 ............1.16............... 3.56
    potatoes ................59p.............. 1.99
    onions ...................59p................ .89
    sprouts ..................29p................ .75
    cauli .....................65p................. .78
    cabbage ................49p................. .78
    broccoli .................69p ..................76
    peppers x3 ...........2.55 ................4.41
    iceberg .................59p ..................98
    cucumbers x2 .........98p............... 1.60
    tomatoes ...............69p................. .82
    beetroot ................53p................. .57
    apples ...................85p............... 1.35
    bananas x2 ..........1.18 ................2.58
    kiwi x2..................1.38............... 2.00
    clementines x2 ......1.38 ...............2.00
    lemons/limes x2 ........98............... 2.40

My Aldi bill came to just over £16, to buy the same stuff at Tescos would have cost me £30!!!!! I know Tescos always puts up their prices at this time of year (regardless of what the ads on TV say), but I've never realised by just how much :mad::mad:

If Aldi can sell at these prices, how much profit is Tescos (with their vast buying power) making out of this .............well, I suppose they must miss us couponers after all :D ...........I certainly only shop there if I have some good conditional spends to use and my fav cashier is working ;);)
I have gone posh :p with my xmas dinner this year (apart from Aldi veg) with Turkey, stuffings, pud etc all from Waitrose and all subsidised with coupons (6 per shop) even got my mum some posh belgium chocs at a fraction of the real price :snow_grin

    Happy Christmas to everyone
