would you embarrassed to not give a gift if it had been agreed?

I had an email from my friend where we agreed not to exchange gifts. I mentioned this to a woman at work jokingly saying I have very few gifts to buy now as my mum said not to get her and my dad anything. The lady at work was shocked and asked wouldn't I be embarrassed not to give my parents a gift at christmas. I said no we had discussed it and agreed, (I make my mum jewellery or crafty stuff as a little gift - although even that will get chucked in a drawer)
So, should I be embarrassed? I would rather buy her something she likes if we are out shopping. We won't have a traditional christmas day as she is working till about 3pm on the day and i travel up on the day, so its not a big thing for us. I am starting to feel there is something wrong with us and I am a tight....:o

no not at all, if thats what you agreed then leave it at that. by the sounds of it it sounds like to treat your mum through out the day which (in my opinion) means more rather than HAVING to buy something just because its xmas.Make £10 a day challenge March 2013 £101.24 / £240 :j

There is nothing wrong with that at all. If you have spoken about this and it's what you agree, then it's totally fine. Don't worry about it and don't let other people make you worry about it xxxMarried the most amazing man 05/12/09 and it was the best day ever, I'm a Mrs, he he!!:jWins 2009: Peroni Alessi bowl woohoo, 1 in 10 wins DVD from Maltesers, Avon lippy!!!Freebies-Bold Gel, CoffeePinecone Research - £9Mystery Shopping - £150

No, you shouldn't.
No, there is nothing wrong with you.
No, you are not tight.
Me and my sister have agreed not to buy for each other this year. Neither of us have a great deal of money and we will just be buying each others children presents instead.
It will be odd as we have always bought for each other but it will be fine. We will be spending time together - which we don't do often enough.
If both people are happy with the agreement then there is absolutely nothing to be worried about
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
if you agreed not to get anything, id be really embarrassed if one person who had agreed not to buy, bought something. That would be really awful. Buy yourself something nice that you want, she can have unwanted stuff people have spent a fortune on under her tree if she likes! It only takes a second to say 'Thanks, you just saved me a few quid!'

agree with the above... if you both agreed to it, don't let someone else change your mind, it has nothing to do with them!Man who run into airport turn-styles is going to Bangkok

I agree with everyone else if that has been agreed on then what has it to do with anyone else. If you are both happy with what has been decided stuff anyone else interfering where it is not needed.Stick to what you have decided its nobody elses business but yours.
My mother in law tells me every year to not buy for them but I ignore her but that is my choice - I couldn't buy for my mum and then not give to Gary's parents besides I enjoy going out and choosing presents for people.
As you said if you are making things/buying things throughout the year why do you have to buy for a specific day. We get grief of the in-laws as we don't buy each other a card for Christmas but bring out the same one we bought in 2003. They were lovely cards but cost about £5 then so why spend all that money to throw them out. Kate :hello:0 -
I know she won't want toiletries, (neither do I - I have 6 bottles of shower gel from christmas gift packs, perhaps people are telling me I need a bath ha ha) i am going wine glass charm crazy, so some of those. I got a £5 vouxher for M&S for getting car insurance, I won't use so I will give it to my mum who loves the M&S sales0

How silly for people to say that!
I wouldn`t be embarrassed at all especially if it had been agreed not too.

No don't be embarassed at all. I wish when I said to people that I really don't need / want anything buying that they listened and didn't get me anything!!!0
