Does anyone here make their own bread starter?

We're a bunch of thrifty souls, and I was just wondering if anyone makes their own bread starter instead of buying commercial yeast?
I've been curious about sourdough bread for a while, and last week finally took the plunge and "caught" some wild yeast at home. I'm now feeding it up and in a week or so I plan to make some bread. :T
Does anyone on here already do this? It would be nice have someone to bounce ideas with. This seems to be a really common thing in the US and less common over here.
