Hi there
unfortunately my 6 year old regularly wets the bed. Today I discovered that the untreated wooden slats under the mattress were stained. How best do I clean the stains and remove the odour.
many thanks

Sorry, no idea about the answer to your question (helpful eh?:rotfl: )
Just thought I'd say you're not alone with a bedwetting 6 yr old.Mine wears pyjama pants which solves the stains and smells problem but probably doesn't help her stop wetting:rolleyes: Anything for an easy life.
You could try scrubbing your woodwork with a paste of bicarb and water.Bicarb is v.good for absorbing smells. There I did have some advice after all:).
Welcome to OS btw0 -
How about sanding it off? That might do itde do-do-do, de dar-dar-dar0

Great to know I am not alone in having a 6 year old who still wets the bed. I took him out of pj pants a couple of weeks ago but any change in the routine and he wets the bed again. I am finding it hard to maintain my patience.
thank you for the welcome thriftlady. i have been very shy about posting up until now and am glad I decided to take the plunge today.
thanks aurora and thrift lady. I will give the bicarb a go and if that fails I will sand it off.:A May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead. :rotfl:0 -
Not unusual - my sister wet the bed until 11, and DH's cousin until he was 16.The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

We suffer from wee soaked bed slats here - I've found about the only thing that works is scrubbing with neat white vinegar...I've also found that bicarb with a few drops of tea tree / lavender added works quite well as an odour removing "shake n vac" for a wee soaked carpet / sofa cushions...
I guess none of you will ever want to come to my house now!!
Hope that helps.0 -
I saw this thread earlier but didn't post since I didn't have any uselful suggestions for removing the stain. Since no one else has any miracle stain removing suggestions either I'll add my tuppen'orth. Whatever you do to clean the untreated slats, once you've done it, treat the slats! It'll stop liquid penetrating into them and make them way easier to clean in case of future incidents.0

Can anyone please tell me where I can buy some dry lavender to stuff into pillows?
If I buy fresh stems, how do I go about drying them and still retaining the fragrance?
Thanks.0 -
Oops - sorry. Meant to start a new thread about lavender. Too many things on my mind today.0

Just to make you all feel better my friends 14 year old son still poops himself daily. That puts most things in persective for me, when the kids are driving me nuts I just remember I havnt had poop to clean up since they turned 2 & left the nappies behind.
Varnishing the slats might seal the smell in aswell ? if its not possible to get rid of it.....another happy bug.........sorry,blogger embracing the simple life0 -
Hope this reply isnt too late for you, but havent been on here much this weekend.
My 12 year old had an 'accident' recently when he wasnt very well, which resulted in his mattress smelling of urine, everytime it got warm from his bodyheat. Im assuming that you could treat your wooden bedslats the same way as the mattress, that is with borax. Just lightly spray the area to be treated with water, (dont soak it!), sprinkle on borax crystals, wait for it all to dry (fortunately for me was a warm day so dried quite quickly), then vacuum up. Must admit i was a bit sceptical but it did work, and the mattress looks and smells normal. I got the borax at a hardware store, my local shops tesco, waitrose dont stock it, and its about £1 a box. Hope this helps.Experience is the toughest teacher because she gives the test first then the lesson
