  • I have a close friend also just diagnosed with high cholesterol and heart trouble who I often cook for. From a bit of research I have found the following foods all naturally lower cholesterol by absorbing it from food - works in the same way at the cholesterol lowering spreads:
    • almonds, if he wont eat them whole, you can use almond oil for cooking
    • beans - baked bean, broad beans, etc
    • peas
    • pulses like lentils
    • soya - so you could use soya milk for making sauces with.
    • oats - I made flapjacks today, but put in almonds and used the cholesterol lowing spread.
I'm not sure of recipes, but tomorrow I'm going to make a shepherds pie, but with beans and peas in with the meat, and use the spread in the mash. I also often cook fish.

The strangest thing is Oh has always been the thin one out of the 2 of us, even now you would see him on the street and think "thin" not "fat". Just shows that anyone can develop chlosterol problems even if they aren't overweight, which is something I didn't know.

...and I'm a bit of a lardybum these days as have been unable to do my normal activities since January, and my cholesterol, tested in November, is 4!
