Went down to my local B&Q (bloody queue.......thats what it stands for....I'm sure
) today and found a Performance Pro 18v 3 speed combi drill WAS £99.99 NOW £48.98, just had to buy one.
These combi drills are not to be poo-pooed at, Performance Pro is B&Qs professional range which are actually made by Ryobi who, any professional will tell you, are a VERY professional tool. I bought a similar one of these 3 years ago and still it returns performance and power to this day, although I have had to replace the batteries, I'm not a DIYer either, a carpenter amongst my other trades.
The model number is CLM18VG3, it is not available on line but you can see its bigger brother which is identical only 24v instead.
A true bargain not to be missed IMHO

My local B&Q are offering several Pro tools at half price. I bought a random orbital sander for £20. I am very pleased with it. Thanks for solving the mystery about what B&Q stands for! I have occasionaly asked the staff but they never new. I can't wait to go back.0

1969 B&Q was founded by Richard Block and David Quayle and the first store opened in Portswood, SouthamptonThanks to all who post constructively.
Have an A1 day!0 -
One of the few great Southampton success stories
I prefer my meaning, its much more truthful ;DThe early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.0 -
Used to work for B&Q.
B&Q stands for Block & Quaile, but the other definition is also appropriate!
Used to sell a lot of Performance Power (cheaper version) and Performance Pro tools (more expensive - one mentioned). Performance Pro tools were returned much less than the poorer quality Performance Power ones.
Offer looks reasonable at half price though. Good for lighter users, though heavy users might want to go for branded tools such as Dewalt or Bosch.Ferrari, give me a job!!0 -
thanks for this, i've been looking for a new drill, but have been unsure how good these ranges are. i'd been looking for a bosch 24v, but may try this for this price0

Id shop around. Nearly ALL the diy stores have reduced their drills, so theres litterally dozens to choose from. I bought a drill from homebase, one of their blue ones... cant rember what its called.... pbx or something.... before christmas as a pressie. 18v, 2 batterys, fast charger, loads of torque settings, loads of bits in the box, dual speed etc... nice looking drill.
Then, last week i looked and they had reduced them, so i bought the same drill, but the hammer version for 39quid for myself.
Looking at them, you couldnt get a "big name" 18v drill for anywhere near that price, and having looked at all the other drills, this one seemed the best spec for the cash.
Having tried it out, i have to say i dont think i`ll be using my professional corded drill much more, as this pbx cordless was just as powerfull on hammer!
So, shop around before you buy!!!0 -
Thanks Biblejohn
will be visiting all the diy shops to see what drills they have....
It is only for home use but the one i currently use is very low volt, so not very good on the tougher jobs.0 -
I had a look at B&Q,homebase, focus, couldn't really tell the own brand stuff apart.
Having bought a couple of naff ones before, I'd sooner have a decent one.
Some salesperson told me that their own brand were made by bosch, but that was a while back and I couldn'tsee or remember them.
So unless anyone can tell me otherwise, I'll take one of these B&Q performance pros0 -

That always makes me laugh when they say "oh, its made by xxxxx". That doesnt mean anything. It doesnt mean that its made using the same components or even has the same peformance. A lot of the manufactorers make budget stuff as well as top quality. Look at tyre manufactorers like goodyear & michelin. They both make cheapy tyres as well as their more expensive ones.0
