I find that pouring deodorising stuff such as vinegar, bleach etc, and stufflike soda crystal in hot water, all explained above, gives excellent results but only if after you use a good old fashioned plunger, vigorously three or four times. This is because the smell is caused by trapped material and the sucking action of the plunger will dislodge it.
Then run some more water and vinegar and the offending material will disappear down the drain.0 -
Wot no Stardrops? I tried this the other day (about a fortnight ago) - carefully poured about a desertspoonful of neat Stardrops around and down the plughole and left overnight. The smell had gone by the morning.
However it is back again today, so perhaps that wasn't the optimum answer.
I think the hot weather makes it worse.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Hi
I also had a smelly basin and nothing worked like the previous postings, eventually I found the overflow was blocked allowing the nice hot water and bleach I was chucking down it to sit and fester, yuk. However a cake testing needle thing meant I could prod it into the overflow outlet which is just under the plug hole. After lots of prodding - what do you know - lots of yuky stuff and smelly water appeared and then disappeared and the room smells heaps better.
For the kitchen sink I also use a plunger - need to manually shift the stuff......November NSD 1/10Weight loss - 7lbs from the 41 I need to loose = 34 to go0 -
