Knitting question - repeats?

Hi, i'm knitting sleeves on a jumper and the instructions have me confused
I have managed to do rows 1- 8 and this involves increasing at the end of each row and decreasing twice in the middle of the row. - so the number of stiches at the end of row 8 is the same number i started with in row 1
after row 8 there are the instructions;
Rep from 1st to 8th row 3 times (working 1 repeat extra in each set of repeats)
i'm really confused aout this part in brackets - if he number of stiches are the same, how do i work 1 repeat extra????

Am I being daft?

What is the pattern in rows 1-8? Where exactly are the decreases? Is there a repeat within the row instructions, eg. Increase in first stitch, (K10, K2 tog) to last stitch, K1m1 type of thing? Or is there a lace or cable pattern of any kind?
It does look odd from what you have written, which is why I wonder what came before it? Can you post rows 1-8 so we can see what you`re comparing it to?0 -
Soz for the late reply. Its quite lengthy, which is why i didn't post first time, but I really need help -
Here is the first eight rows

2nd row *p2, k2 rep from * to last 2 sts, p2
1st and 2nd row set rib
proceed as follows
1st row inc in 1st st, rib 34 k2tog, k2togtbl, rib 33, inc in next st k1
2nd row k1, (p2,k2) 8 times, (p2,k1) twice p2, (k2,p2) 8 times k1
3rd row inc in next st, (k2,p2) 8 times k2, k2tog, k2togtbl,k2 (p2,k2) 7 times p2, k1, inc in next st, p1
4th row k2, (p2,k2) 8 times, (p2,k1) twice p6, (k2,p2) 8 times k2
5th row inc in 1st st, (k2,p2) 8 times k1, k2tog, k2togtbl,k1 (p2,k2) 8 times , inc in next st, k1
6th row p1, k2, (p2,k2) 8 times, p4, (k2,p2) 8 times k2, p1
7th row inc in 1st st,p2, (k2,p2) 8 times, k2tog, k2togtbl,k1 (p2,k2) 8 times, p1 , inc in next st, k1
8th row (p2,k2) 9 times p2, (k2,p2) 9 times
Rep from 1st to 8th row 3 times (working 1 repeat extra in each set of repeats)

My guess is that where it says "8 times" you then do 9 times, and 10 times, etc. Since the number of stitches you have is gradually increasing, so is the number of times you do the pattern.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000

What is the name of the pattern, and who is the designer? Sometimes you can get errata for patterns that have an error in, and it can be possible to find amendments online.0

As I read it.... each time you repeat the pattern you increase the number of (k2,p2).
First block of eight rows.(k2,p2) 9 times, next block of eight rows this increases to (k2,p2) 10 times and the third block (k2,p2) 11 times.
This increases the stitches and creates the pattern. Some times it takes a while for the pattern to become apparent.
If in doubt knit a sample of the pattern.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

Yes Rikki, that makes sense - apart from the fact that the number of stitches stays the same so there are no extra stitches available to repeat...0

How many stitches do you continue with after this set of instructions? Looking at the photo, you're making the flared bit at the bottom of the sleeve, so effectively all you're doing is "bending" the stitches to make them form a V - you then continue in normal rib up the sleeve as far as I can see.
It reads more like the sort of instructions where it says "repeat rows 1-8 3 times, then rows 1-4 once more" sort of thing, doesn't it? It's not very clear at all!
However, I'd say that unless your next set of instructions is telling you to decrease your total stitches - gradually reduce from 74 per row to 68 or something - then all you'll be doing after this is continuing in straight rib up the arm. In which case, as I say, all you're doing here is bending the stitches to form the flare, so the "extra repeat" will be in numbers of rows rather than numbers of stitches.
UNLESS it's very flared, in which case you should be increasing more at the beginning and end of each odd-numbered row, eg increase in first and second stitches and increasing the repeats in the even-numbered rows to take account of that.
Can you knit another eight rows exactly as per the pattern and see how much it bends as a result? It might become obvious what you need to do.
Sorry, hope I haven't confused you more!0
