  • I got a letter from mercers today... they are part of Barclays.

I am on a DMP with payplan and my barclaycard is one of my lowest debts (about £1700) originally they refused my offer saying it was too low - its less than a tenner. But when I spoke to them today they said all was ok and file was updated saying offer accepted.

Keep perservering, things do get better...
    debt April 2007:

    Link Financial £6486.79
    MSDW £4915.45
    Natwest Loan £30651.43
    Tesco £3824.09

Total debt.... a staggering £45877.76, but reducing

  • Hi

Just a bit of info for you all i have been reciving calls from Mercers about my Barclaycard account (missed payments) They do threaten door step recovery and are quite demanding when they speak to you.

Points - Mercers say they are part of Barclaycard, they are not they are an independant company listed on companies house also Barclaycard fraud team confirmed that they are not part of Barclaycard.

On one call from mercers the agent asked for my bank details i.e sort code and account number. I refused as i explained i do not give out my bank details to companies i do not know. I was given the replay " thats ok as we have them here already Barclaycard passed them to us"

Now this is a serious breach of the data protection act as Barclaycard have passed on personal deatils. I am in the process of writing to Barclays Head Office after speaking to the Ombudsman and the Police.

i will update as soon as i hear anything.

I have told Mercers about what i am doing and they have stopped phoning.

    :T
  • I need some help real bad.
Moved from the UK to the USA in 2001, left a Barclaycard debt of five thousand pounds. After a year Barclaycard put it through collections with Mercers.. I started paying $50..00 per month . Mercers called me again in 2004 as I had lost my job and I said I could not pay, this dragged on till the end of 2004, whereby a young lady at Mercers said she would write the debt off and I would not recieve any more calls. It is now 2009 I just had a call from a debt collections company called Cedar Financial claiming they brought the debt from Mercers and are seeking payments either full or by installments. Although I explained to them I thought this debt was cleared, he notified me it was not and that it is now Eleven Thousand dollars. I made a payment by my credit card today of $50.00. He said now I have made a payment and hopefully will continue to make monthly payments this will not go on my credit history, As i have great credit over here. I guess my question is,"This being a UK debt, can this really affect my US debt??) Any help would be great right now..thanks
