Cleaning Patio Slabs

Hello,
I've not posted on here before.
Does anyone have a moneysaving way to clean dirty patio slabs?
I don't have access to a power washer.
I have seen in my local DIY store that Jeyes do a chemical one.
But I am cautious of killing anything if I use chemicals.
Is there a cheaper effective way that anyone has tried?
Thanks awfully
SB
