The sites themselves are indeed copyrighted bristolleedsfan but not the contents of a public forum and especially when nothing has been said of a defamatory nature, if this were the case none of us including yourself would be able to quote from any forum.

However I accept your apology, and as I seem to have trod on your corns when I made my post I must point out that was not my intention either ;)

I think we should let this matter drop now that we have both aired our views. ;)

I agree Madcat about letting the matter drop, if you feel offended
about any posts please report to abuse@moneysavingexpert.com rather than take things off topic by debating your concerns on the forum. :o

MSE do ask people to keep posts factual, ;) please note that I havent said that Cashback Chief may not have approved of the copy and pasting of their post in its complete entirety onto this forum all I did was pointed out why "I" post links only where possible and where "I" do answer a post with a quote from admin of a site forum where a login is required to access the forum e.g Fatcheese or GPB I try and keep the text extremely brief, in explaining myself I quoted MSE Forum rules.

( Post 3546 I was hoping to avoid every post "I" make with external link to a Cashback site forum thread being subsequently copied and pasted in its entirety onto this thread, Post 3548 I merely explained the reasons for the contents of my post 3546 to another user in reply to a post to try and avoid any personal confusions that may have arisen from it, I didnt name you specifically in either post, you were however quoting me and feeling the need to follow up on my postings hence my explanations.

For your info Madcat, Chief Forum is public access it and its links can be read by anyone. :)

What are the rules on copyright?

We ask forum users not to copy long text from other publications/websites as it may breach their copyright. If you want to let people know about something you saw or read elsewhere please use short quotes and state where you got them from, preferably by giving a link to the article.
    Thanks for the reminder BLF

I'll try to remember in future:A

Was showing others why when no login is required to a forum I post a clickable link to the subject matter being posted about in hope that when I do so someone doesnt come along behind me with a copy and paste of complete chapter and verse from site in question :rotfl:

Thats a low blow bristolleedfan considering you went off topic initially and all because you were somehow upset that I had pasted a quote that you had merely linked to! I am amazed that it bothered you so much that you continued to make references to it.

I ignored your first 2 digs and only responded after the 3rd and then only to defend myself, it's true no names were mentioned but it didn't take an Einstein to work out who you were referring to.

I too only post things of a factual nature, and it is a fact that you sometimes post links that divert people from this thread and which often means logging into another site.

My only intention was to make it easier for others and if this upset you then that says more about you than it does about me, and I make no apologies for doing so.

The facts are all here for people to see.

As I stated previously it is the sites themselves, not the forums that are copyrighted, if they were none of us would be able to quote from them including you. Web Wiz forums are also copyrighted but they only provide the software and do not control or police the content.

I am aware of the abuse system here but I am sure they wouldn't want to be bothered by anything so trivial.

As far as I am concerned that is the end of the matter.

Unfortunately copyright exists regardless of whether it's a public forum or not. Normally the T&C's are that the forum owner owns the copyright of anything posted on the forum. If there are no forum T&C's then the owner would be the poster.

I agree, I have not said otherwise, was Madcat who stated that Public Forums as a whole were not copyrighted, all I pointed out initially in reply to this below which was in reply to my posting on the Liligo subject

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2132075 ( 3541)

"For those who don't use Chiefs forums the message posted by the owner Ric says"

Was that anyone could read Chief forum and view a thread from a link whether they used the site or not and I then went on to explain why "I" post links from other forums rather than copy and paste complete posts from one forum to another. If we all copied and pasted complete posts from other forums this thread would have to be restarted much more frequently than it would otherwise need to. Some people I believe like to view the whole thread on the other forum so that they can see the follow up posts like for example "will it be paid" and the responses to that.

Sorry, I'd not realised your name was copied over to the post, I had just intended quoting "Madcats" post.

However, I don't think many of the forums would actually enforce copyright law, but it's something that obviously is a concern for MSE's legal position on the matter.

Yes that is absolutely correct. :) Some forums require a seperate login for all or part of their forum sometimes its in whole maybe to try and prevent/deter spammers and on other occasions its in part so that someone has to be a registered member of the forum in order to view the contents of part of the forum. Obviously forum owner policy which has intention of only registered members of the forum viewing part or whole of the forum cant allow for copying and pasting of posts from it to elsewhere on the Internet.

Fatcheese Forum is an example or where certain parts of it require a login by registered members in order to view so any links to those parts of it from me would indeed in "many"/"some" / "often" instances require a login

    http://www.fatcheese.co.uk/forum/

The only occasions when it would be wrong to link elsewhere from here would be to illegal/suspicious sites or from the main MSE Forum Boards to MSE Referral Board due to the latter being against MSE Forum rules. :)

Thanks Stampede for your input. :)
