  • I find if you can resist the temptation to tear straight into it (I can't very often  ) if you leave it to get really cold (i.e. if you make a loaf first thing in the morning, leave it until evening to slice it), then it slices much more easily, I can get thin enough slices then to fit into my irritatingly small toaster. I just use either a bread knife, or a ham knife, whichever comes to hand first.

Otherwise, if I need to freeze it fairly quickly, then I find my electric carving knife does the trick.

  • Ah ha!!! Excellent suggestions, thanks!! Right, perhaps need to save my pennies for a bread knife!! Not sure it will fit in my tiny kitchen, they are quite large aren't they???

A proper breadknife and a cold loaf will make slicing a breeze. :)
