Hi
Just after some advice i am sure it must have been covered on here at some time. Quite a few years ago i owed a lot of money to some big banks about 2.5k to 1 and about 4k to another and i did not do anything about it along with a few other small debts to others i had a few CCJ placed against me.
The questions is can they still chase the debt after 6 years if you have a ccj? and also if you dont have a ccj can they still chase the debt after 6 years as i had a letter saying i owed them money from 2001 was about £545
Thank you
Ste

Hi and welcome
On the 2001 debt with no CCJ then providing you haven't paid anything towards it or acknowledged it in writing since Nov/Dec 2003 then its almost certainly statute barred - look at this template letter and factsheet for info (assume you are england/wales?) - http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/england_wales/factsheet.php?page=25_liability_for_debts_and_the_limitation_act
If there is a CCJ but they haven't chased you for 6years and you haven't paid for 6years then they have to get the permission from the court to be able to chase you for the debt again (and explain to the court why they haven't chased you before). If you have been at the same address/or on the electoral roll for the last 6years then they would need to come up with some good reason to suddenly chase you (the factsheet recommends phoning national debtline for advice in these circumstances)A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
