Hoe do I make a fabric refresher?

Bit of back story:

We've been given a new (to us, seond hand in reality) settee and chairs by my in laws, and as lovely as they are they smell a bit musty!

I've sprayed Febreze on them and it's helping but I think I'll need a number of application before it smells like our house.

The problem is Febreze is expensive and frnakly smells like chemicals, which is only just preferable to the musty!

Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do instead (I've taken off the cushion covers and washed them, and washed as much as I can with a cloth and soapy water, but they're still a bit musty!)

Thanks

I use watered down fabric conditioner and spray that on curtains, suite, carpet etc. I even spray it on my bedding whilst its on the bed to freshen it up before making it ( obviously let it dry first tho!)

sprinkle over bicarbonate of soda and leave for a while ,then vacuum off,it should take away any smells and just leave it smelling neutral and fresh :)

A cheaper version of febreze is ironing water. tesco's own is around 70p. i use this to spray the sofas. it smells lovely but not as cheap as home made.

Put some lavendar heads in the cushions and the smell will "soak" through the filling. You'll also get a blast of fragrance everytime you sit down!
Here I go again on my own....

Fabric conditioner sheets? Not very OS I know, but maybe worth it in this case?

I have the same problem and it is nice that someone has asked the question. The mustiness hits you when you walk in the front door and it is all in the living room. But our sofas are only 4 years old!
Will try zaflora as I already have it. Febreze was of temporary use for me.
Lavender sounds good too - will try that.
    Thanks.

How about moving the items outside for a bit ( not the carpets obviously). That certainly refreshes duvet which have been bagged up in the attics. Doesnt work with a normal English summer (ie rain) but okay at the moment.
