Sounds like OP is desperate! £500! Kids should be taught to appreciate little things in life, most people in Uk are better off than most in the entire world.

Well thats fine then. So I expect that all the posters who have slagged off the OP for wanting to give her children a Christmas , will do the same ;)

To the OP, I agree £ 500 is too much , but you will get a loan from your local credit union , just search " credit unions in .. then your town or city .. You can also save with them towards next year .

Hope this helps & you all have a lovely time

  • For me the best part of Xmas is watching my little boy's eye light up when he comes downstairs and sees the presents Santa has left for him

If other parents prefer to lecture their kids on the value of money on the one day of the year when it's all about family (to most of us anyway) then thats your perogative
The same way if the OP wants a loan for Xmas it's her choice!

Maybe some of you need to climb down from your ivory towers every now and again....

My life is all about family every day! You buy your kids treats when you can, and nice food when you can, so there are lots of little Christmases, not save it up for one arbitrarily-chosen date - don't you?

PHave you tried for a crisis loan from the Job Centre?

Wanting to buy Christmas presents, whilst understandable, is hardly a crisis.

It is this sort of attitude that explains why people sink in debt. The OP is living on the bare minimum - paying off a whopping £500 will cripple her for months, possibly leaving her unable to pay for food or gas. Then her children - whose darling faces lit up on Christmas morning - will get hungry and cold. Bet their little faces won't be lit up then, eh?

We cut out cloth...She should be concentrating on the essentials - and presents are not essential.

For my sons 1st xmas he got .......A £10 pressie, our fault really as we bought for all the family , didnt budget for it and had no money left. At that age he did not even notice and now as a family we joke and talk about it now and at the same time learn him not to get what he cant afford.
Dont know what ages th ops kids are , but freecycle gives good thing out .or 3 from tesco ,buy 2 get third free, bogof's are about all the time.
Rather than just trying to get the £500, there are ingenious ways us moneysavers can get money.

xmas is special to children and learning them the value of money can wait, but as a parent we can still make it cheap but good

  • Why not get a temporary Christmas job? Can you do some bar work in the evenings or something if someone can watch your kids for a few hours?

    Nobody is against you!

People are trying to help by encouraging you not to take on debts that you can't afford and not to spend the sort of money that would be excessive for a family on a large income!
