'Merry Christmas' to you all xx
I'm so glad you posted this. It's what I've been thinking whilst reading the thread. My Mum was also a single parent with a waster husband and she used to get a Provident loan every year for our Xmas.
If only she'd have talked to us about it, we'd all have been happier. I knew nothing about it then, but I feel awful now, knowing she got into debt (which worried her for the rest of the year) just for our Xmas presents. Ingrates that we were, we didn't really appreciate them anyway!
Enjoy your Xmas :beer:Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.0 -
OP, just an example of what I do in regards to saving for Christmas.
I open a monthly saver with a bank out with where my 'main account' is held and save over the year £20 a month, sometimes a bit more if I'm careful with spending. This way I'm not tempted when dealing with current account things to quickly transfer money back and there's a nice nest egg of £250 to £300 come the festive time, which substantially eases the burden. hope that helps!
But, whatever you decide is the best route for you and your kids, i genuinely wish you the happiest of Christmas' and I'm sure you'll make it a special day, not only for your kids, but for yourself too!0 -
Sorry, i didn't notice there was a 5th page when reading through and posted at end of what i thought was the fourth!

I cannot believe someone is asking for a loan to buy christmas presents....£500 at that!! Better the children learn what can and cannot be afforded now than end up disappointed next time around when the £500 cannot be borrowed and this £500 is still being paid back, with help from bailiffs taking away this years presents!
:rolleyes:0 -

If the OP wants to get a loan out for Xmas, it's HER choice, she didn't come here asking for opinions, she came her to ask if and how it could be done
From the OP's recent posts it's obvious she's having a really !!!! time of it at the minute, if having a nice Xmas for her and her kids is going to make her feel that little bit better then who the hell do you think you are to try and make her feel bad for it
Some of the other posters have given her excellent advice, such as letting the kids look through a catalogue and setting limits, shame all you and so many others have done is judge0 -
