Cheap but tasty cake recipes

I'm not sure if I am posting on the right forum, am hoping I am. I'm doing the Playtex Moonwalk next year, and would like to do a cake sale type thing at work as a fundraising event. However, I don't want to be spending more than I'll be raising, as then there is no point in doing it. Does anyone know of any recipes for cakes/biscuits etc that taste nice but won't break the bank to make?

Thanks for your help.

Miss T.

Well a basic sponge is quite cheap to make and you can flavour it with vanilla, lemon, almond and just vary the filling. Say for almond extract flavour use raspberry jam, for lemon zest/juice being added use some lemon curd instead of jam (Sainsbury's make quite a nice lemon curd in their basic range). For Chocolate cake perhaps mix cocoa and icing sugar to make the spread in the middle and perhaps on the top.

As for biscuits you could try making Twink's Hobnobs as a tray bake. I found a receipe on here for Millies style cookies, chop up some basic dark chocolate (costs 27p) and these are pretty cheap to make.

    does that help at all?

    Hi miss_t,

Muffins, fairy cakes, banana bread, and biscuits/cookies can all be cost effective to make.
