Cover Letter For A 16 Year Old - For A Job?

Options
Hi everyone.

I was walking past a JD Sports as i saw advertised in the window that they are looking for weekend workers. This would be ideal for me. I went in to the store to ask for an application form, and i was told to send in my CV with a cover letter saying when i can work.
What else do i include in this cover letter. I have not had and previous experience in retail, but i really like the shop and am enthusiastic.
What are my chances?
What could i write?

Thanks
Daniel

    Something like:

    Dear Sir

I would like to apply for the position of Sales Assistant (Saturdays) in your store. I understand the importance of team working, having played in a football team for x years. I am friendly and polite and enjoy meeting people. My school report shows that I am punctual, rarely absent and hard working. I am available to start work immediately.

What I lack in experience, I more than make up for in my willingness to learn. I trust that you will give my application your every consideration

    Yours faithfully

    Daniel.
Nile has the right idea. Can I suggest you find out the name of the person hiring, make sure you hand your letter to him/ her,and smile. If you want to be really brazen, ask then when they are next free to interview you, and say you are able to make the interview at whatever time they say. it takes a little balls, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.
A little adivce on the job. Never, never , never be late. Especially for an interview.

Brazen can be good but it can back fire it can come across as cocky and put people off you. Either way though it will make you stand out and for these kinds of job that can be the biggest challenge.

What chances do you have? Probably as good as anyone else. Whilst I did work in customer services/ sales in one form or another for 9 years there isnt really any massive skill in the job (a dedicated sales job is different) and every company has their own till/ pc system so there isnt really that many transferable skills. The only short fall is companies like work references as it gives them a secure feeling but for a weekend job I doubt this will be a massive issue.

I have found sometimes these cvs never get to the right person.Does anyone think it would be better to send it by post to the Manager?

Thats one of those things. Its also an idea to work out when they are recruiting, i.e. shops before christmas etc. May sound obvious, but I work at Currys, and we have people coming in in Feb, asking for a job. Thats when we start laying people off.
New stores are a cinch for first timers. They alwaysoverhire, often people who would never get a job there otherwise, and if you are a quick learner, and get to be good on a particular section, there is less chance of you being cleared out at the first opportunity (which also happens a lot).
    Good luck

    Hi Everyone,
Would just like to let you know that i got the job!!!
    Thanks everyone!
I sent my cv and cover letter on friday (first class recorded), it arrived on Saturday, and the manager phoned me to tell me i had an interview today!
Well, I went in and he saw from my cv that i "Wasn't dumb" - his words...not mine. He told me about pay, discounts, training and everything. He gave me the job within 5 minutes of speaking to him!

    Thanks again to everyone!
