I understand your concerns but I do not think it is wise to post such detailed information. The names of the club or its manager add nothing and I recommend that you asterisk them out *****.

Have you tried to find out whether this actually does register as a default on your credit record? Experian/equifax - have a look.0

Often more information is required to answer a querie - on this occassion I can truely say ...... TOO much information, I reckon someones gonna be really happy to read his name sooooo many times in one post.
And so many times in the post made on Consumer forums - making the gentleman you named number one on google.0 -
- The outstanding balance on your credit accounts (excluding your mortgage) is low
- You don't have any county court judgments and you have not been declared bankrupt in the last six years

I dont know anything abou the law relating to clubs and associations and how their money is regulated.
I suspect (though as mentioned above I dont really know) that the club are not in a position to release you from any debts (they can relieve you of your authority but not responsibility) - the debt is owed to the bank and while you remain 'on their books' as the man in the know, then it is up to them to release you from the debt.
I also suspect (again with the above caveat) that there is no such thing as a 'treasurer on paper only'.
Frantic semantics, you took on the job, you took on the responsibilities that go with that job (whatever they are I dont know), kinda doesnt matter that you gave away some of the bits and bobs to 'some other guy' - it is still your responsibility... if you see what I mean.
Someone on here will know far, far more than me.0 -
There are too many potentially complex issues in here to be able to fully address them.
First off, you say you were named Treasurer, but you weren't really the Treasurer. Either you were or you were not. How was the club constituted? Did the managing committee have meetings and were they minuted? If they were, were you properly elected as Treasurer? If so, then you were the Treasurer irrespective of what you think your role was. If not, then you are not completely out of the woods either as your actions could have been such that you appeared to all intents and purposes to be the Treasurer to the point that you can not deny that this was the case.
Secondly, how was the account set up? It sounds as though you and the other person were the account holders, rather than the Team. If so, then you and he/she are jointly & severally liable - personally - the same as any other joint account. The account should have been in the name of the Team so the the Team, as a separate legal entity, was the account holder and you were just an authorised signatory.
It sounds as though it's too late to unravel this mess so you should move on and learn the lesson. The default, unfortunately, is likely to remain on your personal credit file.
What do the Team say about all of this?Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0
