Help! Internet Problems

Hi,
I've recently been having problems with my internet. I connect the internet with no problems, it comes up as connected in the Connections window, all modem lights are on and the phone line is functioning fine - there are no problems. Yet when I open Internet Explorer it keeps coming up with Error 404 - "Cannot find file ... blah de blah". I've tried using other browsers and MSN/Yahoo too but they don't work either - I'm using my work PC at the moment.
Can anyone help? I'm connected with Tiscali.
Thanks guys,
Elf

oooohh - I've just posted something similar and didn't see your message - I'm on Tiscali too, and this has just started happening today. I'm in exactly the same boat, so have nothing to offer other than 'cripes - me too!' Pleeease let me know if you find a solution!0

Error 404 file not found is an error when a particular file you are looking for on the web is missing / doesnt exist.
Quite likely that your default startpage is having some problems.
Are you having trouble visiting any other websites.
I can safely say that it has nothing to do with the connection itself and from the sounds of it is a problem with the tiscali web portal.

Having finally found the well-hidden help files at the Tiscali site, something seems to have worked - though I don't know for how long or why:
Tools>Internet Options - delete temporary files and cookies, then restart your 'puter. For some reason, the web's now back to normal, fingers crossed.0 -
Just rang Tiscali and they tried quite a few things to sort it out, it turns out that my TCP/IP Protocol is corrupt and needs to be reinstalled/reset. (See Microsoft's guide on how to do it http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357/EN-US/"To be or not to be......that is the question"

I mean the amount of times I type Clear the Cache its easier not to explain and just send them to CCleaner :rotfl:0 -
I have downloaded CCleaner on Quincy's advice and it's great. I use it every couple of days and it keeps my laptop clean and fresh like a rose....:p
And with fewer problems and errors...;)Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
