Escheated US Stocks

I recently tried to sell my shares in a US company, I sent the certificate to etrade who then sent it off to compushare without my knowledge. I contacted Compushare who advised me the shares had been escheated to the US government and I would have to contact missingmoney.com to see what I could do to get them back!
I have tried in vain but missingmoney.com seems to have gone missing. I am going to contact the state of Delaware government tomorrow to see what I can do. Has anyone else suffered similar problems. I moved house 5 years ago and the dividends were never forwarded and sent back as 'not at this address' apparently this is why they have been escheated.

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
