OS Cookery Book @ Tesco - Mrs Beeton

Options
Today I bought an Old Style cookery book at Tesco. It includes every day recipes such as macaroni cheese, lasagne, home made yogurt, meatloaf and loads more. It's on Tesco.com at £4.99 but I bought mine from the local branch for £2.49.

Thanks Black Saturn. Don't usually patronise Tesco (too big) but might go and have a look. Sounds really good.
    Where now?

Thanks that looks like a really good buy - I'll look out for it in Tesco.

I did a google on it for more info and learned that Mrs Beeton died aged 28! I always imagined her to be a plump old lady, I don't know why!!!

    About the Author
Isabella Mary Beeton was born in London is 1836, where she grew up in a household of twenty-one children. It took Isabella four years to compile her masterwork, publishing Mrs Beeton's Book of Household Management in 1861. It contains an enormous amount of information to help people live, in Isabella Beeton's own words, 'economically, tastefully and well'. Her style, imparting information as clearly and simply as possible, was hugely influential. The book sold 60,000 copies in its first year, but Isabella Beeton died four years later, in 1865, aged just twenty-eight. The enduring popularity of Mrs Beeton's Book of Household Management is testament to the quality of her advice

    everyday baking (I think)
    household tips

Sounds like a good book, but as it contains recipes for lasagne and yogurt it unlikely to have been written by Isabella Beeton.

Her husband Sam gave up all his copyrights to the original book of 1861 to the publishers Ward,Lock and Tyler. At first the book was just reprinted but it later became rewritten.By the 1960s none of the recipes in the book had been written by Isabella Beeton.Consequently there are many 'Mrs Beeton' books about that have nothing to do with the original Mrs B.

People have mentioned a facsimile edition of the original book, this is a fascinating book, well worth a read.It has menus for 'family dinners' for each month that will make you gasp-it's a wonder those Victorians could move.
