With a good credit reord you should be able to get one at around 6-6.5% interest. Poor credit and it will cost between 2 & 3 times that amount. But very few will offer that amount over 15 years, unless you secure it against a property and you really don't want to swap unsecured debt for secured debt.

15 years is a long time to pay be paying back debt. If this is for "consolidation" of e.g. credit cards, you would probably be better off managing the cards better. If you have good credit record, you may be able to get 0% card or one with a low rate for life on balance transfers e.g. some (Barclaycard?) are offering 2.9% for life of balance to some customers.

More info needed and we can be more specific

  • Thanks for the info. Both myself and my husband have good credit ratings. want to consolidate 4 credit cards with overall value of £18,000. also hp for car £1800, also hp on pc for around £1000. not sure of interest rate on each. will have to check with hubby. Thought it would be easier to consolidate and pay interest on the lot rather than individually ? don't really want it secured, unsecured would be the ideal option. any more info would be great. thx

  • Goldfish are offering loans at 5.9% at the moment.
  • Thanx guys for the info.

Think we're mainly aiming at consolidation loan. cos we want to tie-in a couple of other bills.

Did try moving credit cards every six months to take advantage of 0% offers. but thats not as straight forward as it sounds, as some banks will only allow certain amount of balance transfer. ! ! ! !

    Thnx again for your help X X X :-/
