ASDA not delivered groceries...again

Had ordered some groceries from ASDA to be delivered this evening between 8-10pm. I try and order online only when I have to as they're usually late delivering and it's an inconvenience to me, but as a final year uni student at the moment, I've got 2 essyas on the go, plus the weather is awful and I have no car, so don't fancy the 6 mile round trip to the supermarket...

Anyhow, as I mentioned, they've been late in the past, but tonight they not only haven't delivered at all, but have failed to call me to let me know what's going on. I tried calling their customer services line, but kept getting put on hold...I then check the website and turns out they closed at 10 (I called just before 11pm to give them some extra time)...and you have to pay for the pleasure of contacting customer services?!

Anyhow, I plan on calling them tomorrow and asking for a refund on delivery costs, but was wondering whether I should push for a partial refund on the gorceries themselves to compensate me for the time I have wasted waiting in for them. The plan was to get groceries by 10pm then go for a night out and be in town by 11pm...obviously couldn't do that as they not only haven't turned up, but haven't even contacted me! I know they have my number as they have deigned on occasion to contact me in the past when they're running late.

Any thoughts anyone?

  • Well, situation is resolved, I guess...the delivery driver lied and claimed he'd tried to deliver but I wasn't in so the order was cancelled - I only found this out when I called this morning. Driver never bothered to contact me, even though I was in all evening. ASDA customer services called the store twice, and eventually sided with me as they couldn't get a straight answer out of local store's management.

Anyhow, they've refunded my delivery costs and given me £15 off my order, *but* the food wont be delivered until tomorrow, which means another day of waiting around for them.

It's not only Asda - this happened to me with Tesco on Wednesday night, also an 8pm-10pm delivery. When I finally got to speak to someone I was told all the vans had broken down and was given no explanation why they had not phoned me.
I asked her to resubmit my order to be delivered the next afternoon but they said they would have to charge my account again and would then refund the cost of the first delivery. I also got my delivery cost refunded and an e-voucher for £10.

I ususally use Asda for deliveries as they are much better than our local Tesco. The only time I used Tesco was for a delivery 9pm - 11pm. I hurried home for 9pm and waited and waited. Got a phone call at 11.20 and it was delivered after that. I got the excuse that all the vans weren't working too. But for someone like me who likes to be in bed by 10 with a good book it stressed me out so much I won't shop on line with Tesco again.
  • i've had problems with tesco showing up early too. i booked my delivery for 4-6pm as i wouldnt be home from work until then. i got 2 phone calls at 3pm and 3.30pm to ask where i was?! the delivery driver told me "i've got other deliveries to make you know" and when i got home they had all the bags sitting on my doorstep, all my frozen goods quickly defrosting. cheeky beggars!!!
  • Ocado did it to me too - Booked the 7-8 a.m. slot, so could get the food in before leaving for work. Cue me sitting there on the phone at 8.30 explaining to the delivery driver that no, it wasn't OK for me to blame him for being late for work, and that it wasn't OK for him to get there just before 10 a.m.

Sainsbury's was worse though - the food turned up on time, but with ridiculous substitutions. Low fat natural greek yoghurt was replaced with strawberry (not good for a curry), the butter was replaced not with one of the other 20 brands they stock, but with cheap spread that was nuclear orange in colour. We have picked a 2 x 4packs for £7 beer deal, and rather than replace it with one of other four brands on offer, they put in a premium brand not on the deal, and charged over a tenner for them. That, combined with the large chunk of old chewing gum stuck on top of the OJ, did get me a partial refund, free delivery and a £10 voucher.

Won't be using them for delivery again though. Eugh.

This happened to me last night, (my first ever Asda delivery) it was supposed to be delivered between 5 - 7pm. When I got to speak to someone (8:00pm) I was told that they couldn't contact the driver and the shopping would turn up soon - at 11:30 I gave up. I got my delivery cost refunded and an e-voucher for £10, however all I wanted was my shopping including necessary supplies for my baby. Its now 8:30 Monday morning and I still have no shopping!! I will never use Asda again.

Asda are now telling us that the order was canceled yesterday at around 7pm and we would now have to re-order, its strange how customer services didn't know this when we phoned them at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 10:30pm and the first phone call this morning at 7:30am. They now say the earliest they can deliver is tomorrow, how can Asda on-line operate in this slap dash manor? I can't think of any reason that would stop Asda form resolving this issue today, but yet here we are without any food!

unbelievably poor service by Asda on-line delivery service, shame on you!
  • I ordered the 6 bottles on offer from Asda on Saturday.
They called me yesterday to say they didn't have any in stock so clearly this offer is not a genuine one and they are just conning people.
  • Asda failed to deliver my order despite it being made last week.

They didn't even have the decency to tell me it was cancelled I had to ring them up about it when it did not turn up.

    Really useless outfit.
