My first freecycle...

Sorry I have to admit I am rather new to freecycle and have collected one thing on behalf of my sister. I didnt think to put on a thank you e-mail and TBH not sure how to do this. I appreciate that this is a laim excuse and yes I am not just too lazy to find out how, I am bone idle. That said, and before I come in for lots of stick can I point out that the item I received was for my sister and as I am not in the habit of taking things for free I did give the girl a bottle of MY wine(not my sisters!) which I am sure was more appreciated than a thank you e-mail.
There is a lot of bickering on my local site at the mo regarding people who want, want, want but make no offers. It is becoming a bit of a pain.
But yes you are right a little thanks doesn't go a miss and can go long way!:j0 -

I've had a positive experience out of freecycle, and have made a very local gardening friend from it, so I'm delighted. The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

I forgot to say that I also told her about this site,so in my opinion I didn't do too bad!:j0

People can be a bit greedy in their wanted posts. Our moderator deletes silly posts now so we dont even see them but there are still a few that seem OTT.
I've been very lucky myself ,we were given a dishwasher and the owner even delivered it to us in his van . I felt quite embarrassed that he had gone to such trouble for total strangers .0 -
I have been quite lucky with Freecycle in that I have got a lovely glass computer table and a brilliant stereo from it. I am in the process of having a sort out to put things on.
The only things that bug me are the amount of people asking for expensive things like camera phones, cars etc (someone the other day was asking for a plasma tv!) and when you send an email expressing interest in an item and not only don't receive a reply but that person does not even post saying the item has gone. I do understand that they can receive a lot of interest but surely it is only polite to let people know the item has been taken? The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -

To be honest, if I'd effusively thanked somebody in person when collecting an item (to the point that the person really KNEW it was highly appreciated) I wouldn't necessarily see the need to send an email as well
i agreeweve only offered one item so far,a large computer desk ,which was collected by a lovely family who lived in the next street !! they were friendly / polite and were over the moon with it as they had been looking for a bigger one and we wanted to downsize lol
i didnt receive a thankyou email and didnt think anything of it TBH0 -

It wasn't collected by the recipient. It was collected by her parents which is why I think she should have emailed to say thanks.:heart2:I have a child with autism.:heart2:0 -

That put me off mine. I stopped subscribing when there were more wanted posts than offers
I also had a stroppy lady. I replied to her want and she got annoyed because I wouldn't go out of my way and personally deliver the item to her. She didn't have the time to come and collect it, so I said I didn't have the time to deliver it!
A man who collected a monitor was absolutely thrilled though and he sent a lovely message saying his sons were pleased now they could see all the colours in their games now!
I also got my son to send a thank you message to a lady who I collected some childrens books from. She was pleased he wrote to her. Here I go again on my own....0 -
My local freecycle group posts has about 90% wanted ads and 10% offered! I no longer bother with the group as the requests for items are ridiculous - people want laptops, mopeds, dishwashers, power boats (yes you read correctly!) and post long lists of items which would completely funish a four bedroom home...
I went through a stage of trying to feng shui the house and clear everything that wasn't needed. Certain subscribers then began emailing at the start of the week asking if I was getting rid of anything, and if I was, could they have the items to save me the trouble of listing them. Definiitely not in the spirit of freecycle.
I love the concept of freecycle but now just take stuff down to the local charity shop - at least they say thank you and are honest in their policy to resell the items for a profit! It's better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.0
