Was it right for me to not tell the OR?

When I went bankrupt I went through the process of the IPA etc and am almost at the end of it now. When I asked the OR about changes in income or overtime they said I didn't have to inform them of any of that. Several threads have popped up recently who said they should be informed. Now, if the OR said not to inform them could they still look at the P60s at the end of the three years and then take more off me as a final payment? After all I did comply with what the OR told me. What do you guys think?

[STRIKE]When you went BR, the OR would have sent you a number of forms/notices to sign and return.

    The question is, did you?

One of those (NBT2 I think) sets out your legal duties as a BR. That includes informing the OR of any increase in income.[/STRIKE]

Yes I did all that. The OR still told me they didn't want to know unless it was a large amount (like over £500)

i wouldn't worry too much now. you did what your or told you and you can't change it now so don't stress over it
  • How long ago are we talking? they changed the wording of IPA's about a year or so ago regarding informing them of changes, if i remember rightly, so you may not have anything to worry about
Mid-2007 started the IPA, BR in Feb 07

The other question was, when it is finished do they send a letter telling me it's finished or do I just cancel the DD?
  • Hopefully fermi can confirm if my old memory is correct, but there was a error in the wording in IPA agreemants back then if im not finaly losing it, it stated you only needed to inform them of changes up to discharge, they corrected it after it was highlighted on here., not sure if that was a coincedence:confused::rolleyes:

As for your other question, they should just stop taking it, but if it was me, i would cancell the DD, just in case they forget;):p
Well the standing order is set to end on that date but just wondered if they sent you a letter confirming finalisation as they do student loans. Thanks for other advice by the way. perhaps fermi can confirm this?

Bat is right...i had my IPA letter in jan 2008 saying i only had to inform them of any changes in circumstance until discharge..:D.Dx

Ps when bc lasted 3 years everything was ok but when the changed it to 12 months some OR's were using the old letters(hence until discharge) now they have updated the wording...so double check your IPA letter.Dx

Ignore my first post. I thought you were still undischarged.

As Bat says, officially it depends on the wording of your IPA. Do you still have a copy of the agreement?

Unofficially, if your OR said not to bother telling them except for large increases, then I would be inclined to take them at their word and not worry too much.

BTW, yes, the wording of IPAs did seem to change at about that time. However, I've seen a couple of instances lately where they were still (rightly or wrongly) using the old wording, so consistent as normal. ;)
