Council Tax on New Property

in Cutting tax
I'm living in a rented property which I moved into a few months ago, the property was brand newly built at the time. I have not yet paid any council tax or received any correspondence about it, furthermore I don't really know which council is appropriate (there are 3 in the area it could be). My letting agents assure us they have informed the council.
My question is what should I do? should I do nothing and wait for the council to work out they should be receiving tax (surely the builder is required to register the property with the council or something?)?, should I phone various councils and hope I dont receive bills from more than one?
I'm not trying to avoid the tax, and have been putting away money each month in anticipation of having to back-pay it.
Many thanks

Don't worry, they'll come.
We moved into our newbuild at the end of January and have just had ours. £1500!!! for a 3-storey band-C. £270 backdated to the paid by the 27th, and then the monthly installments of £160 odd from the 7th July.
But don't worry. They will come after you. Luckily we have been stashing the bill cash away earning 4% on their money.0 -
search on https://www.voa.gov.uk with your postcode. This should tell you the council and what band you are. Then contact the council in question to make sure they have got you down.0

If the property is newly built then they may be waiting for the Valuation Office to band the property................................. ......................... Which area is is that the property is in and i could let you know which council it is................................................................................................... also chances are the VO may not know about it as the council may not have sent them a report yet, so it's an idea to register with the council as well to get the ball rolling in case they haven't done already.............................................................. Make sure you've got some money put by each month from the time you moved in too as you can bet you'll get a big bill to begin with!!!......................Please bear with the lack of paragraphs, my formatting isn't working!!
