Very much depends on the make and model. However, many of them have the controls hidden under the top panel. Have a look at it to see if it lifts up.

Failing that enter the make and model into Google with the word manual and see if you can find the instructions on the Internet.

look at the controls and remember put the input on the highest number and output on the lowest. If it isnt warm enoug for you just up the output. I love my storage heaters I wouldnt change them fro anything.

My Mum has them after years of living with gas central heating. She puts her input at about 3 ish just now and output on 0, ( when she goes to bed)she then puts it up as the day goes on - to try and save the heat till later on in the day. It keeps her flat really warm and cosy.

  • Storage heaters are fine if you're at home during the day, as they heat up at night and release the heat slowly during the day. I used to have them, expensive to run in cold weather unless you are in modern building with lots of insulation.
Any way... set at mid heat setting (3-4) and try that, you need to look at weather forecast to increase heat as needed the day before you need it.(!!) The other knob is control for a flap to release extra heat in evening. BUT remember when it's all gone it's gone, so shut it before going to bed.

Usually as people have said there are controls on the top, rarely they have automatic sensors (which can fail)

Though IMHO Storage heaters....THE most useless expensive things ever installed by my landlord...why....because some of the "auld fowk" were "scared of the gas"...what a waste of taxpayers money, gas central heating is to be honest, cheaper to run, much more efficient (as long as you don't scrimp on radiator / boiler size) and more flexible (increase and decrease heat as you need it, rather than wasting heat by having to open windows when its unexpectedly mild or shivering under 2 sweaters in a sudden cold snap.)
As you can tell, I hate the stupid things and wish they had never been invented.
