Putting up a cut Xmas Tree Outside without blowing over

Hi there
Any tips on securing a 7' cut tree oustide on out lawn? Last year tried a 2' metal fence post holder - worked a treat but destroyed the lawn digging it up!!!
Have looked at the Krinner Tree stand but it says indoor only. Think it may work but could rust.
So, any other tips on getting a tree to stand up straight, and stay there during wind and rain???
cheers

I would suggest the only way to secure a tree without a serious fence post would be to create buttresses around its base and secure these into the ground at an angle - that way they'd pull out much easier. You could also try tying loops of very strong twine through the stand before you put the tree in, and then put serious storm pegs or bent metal rods through the loops and hammer into the lawn. (I can picture this, but its very difficult to explain into words!)0

Sort of like tent guy ropes?? Did think about this but perhaps thought I was over-engineering it!!0 -
that's exactly what I mean - you could even tie them round the tree higher up to give greater stability.0

If anyone else stumbles across this thread my ultimate answer was quite simple and cheap:
http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=20001&partNumber=080584&Trail=searchtext>REPAIR&c_1=1%7Ccat_14047001%7CGates+and+fencing%7C14287870
This fence post repair thingy can be hammered in, and the trunk fits in the top 'box'. Secure with a couple of nails through the holes in the side. Works a treat.
Could be tricky to get out but the man at Homebase suggested rope through the holes and pull hard (or tie it to your car bumper and drive off!!)!!0
