Using money off coupons at Tesco

Can anyone tell me, I knew they did ages ago, but do Tesco accept money off coupons for stuff even if you havent bought that product ?
A lady in front of me the other day at the checkout had a fistful of vouchers and I'm sure she hadn't bought that much stuff!?
I did a quick search but couldnt find anything so sorry if this has already been asked elsewhere!

yes they do - but every Tesco is different -they will not accept store specific ones - i.e 50p baked beans at somerfield.
but manufactorers ones are ok. They can be funny about internet ones to. They will accept sainsburys £3 off a £30 spend ones ( or similar )
See Discount voucher board for more details & more information
IMPORTANT - every tesco is different the manager decides on the amount they can take. i.e half your bill, a percentage or as many as you haveThanks to everyone who posts comps :T0 -
I think that the tills will only accept vouchers if the goods in question are purchased.
They do not accept vouchers that are specific to other stores apart from those that are spend and save vouchers i.e Spend £30 and save £3.0 -
I wonder if that was me.......PM me the time and place if you like.
I've been giving coupons over in Tesco in the Bournemouth area for a few years and have nearly always been successful in getting between 10 - 90% off the bill without buying the products.
There's a good thread over in the vouchers board at the moment which goes through how best to get and use vouchers but my main tips are....
Start small - a couple of coupons at a time to start will build up your confidence
Pick young men at the tills - this always seems to work best
See the coupons as a bonus and don't count on them - you never know when you will get a difficult cashier and it's not worth arguing with them.0 -
only way is to try it.. its the managers discrection.. peterborough tescos extra wont take vouchers unless you have bought the items but tescos extra in aylesbury take any vouchers as long as they sell the items.. so try and see what you got to loseThose we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,

I've only once been told that I can only use up to 10% of the value of my shopping. I always use vouchers (see the world books thread for details of how to get lots of £1 vouchers). I've successfully used vouchers up to 90% of the value of my shopping.
You don't have to purchase the item on the voucher, but they will only accept 1 of each type of voucher if you haven't bought multiples of that item.
I haven't tried using internet vouchers since they refused them in 1 branch 2 years ago and said it was company policy (but I've since read on other threads that some people still use them with no problems).some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it0 -
I've been using coupons for quite a while at tesco, and so far so good but they would not take money off coupons for magazines unless you actually buy them.0

you can use the coupons but only one per product. ie 1 x tin of baked beans if you haven't bought the baked beans.
are they going to stop letting people use milk tokens? heard a rumour the other day and our corner shop has stopped accepting them62;)0 -
i used quite a few at an asda self scan last week. including 2 quick read ones (by mistake but it accepted them both!). at tesco i was told i couldn't use them cos i hadn't bought the item so i presume it depends on the SA. i said my friend does it all the time & she said the SA shouldn't do it so i haven't tried since as am easily embarrassed! self scan much easier!Cleaning the house while children are growing is like shovelling snow when it's still snowing!0

i accidently handed over a £5.00 off £50.00 speand at Sainsburys voucher amongst a few other vouchers earlier in the week at my local Tesco and it scanned and took the £5.00 off. it was a genuine mistake and I had only spent around £30.00 but I was obviously very happy. I have another one to use that is valid from Sunday so may try this one next week.0

How easy is it to use the self scan?
I've got some of the Quick Read Vouchers and I'm too chicken to use them with my grocery shopping in Tesco, so maybe this is the answer. Is it just for payment by credit/debit card? Do they ever check up on people using them. Why is it I feel so guilty about using coupons??!!!!0
