card fraud

Options
HI
I'm new to this site and have never posted anything on it till now!.
I have had a bit of trouble with my Debit card. Two weeks ago I went to get money from the atm, but when I used my card it said no funds available. I asked the teller to check my account and she was able to tell me that my account was about to be overdrawn, that there was two payments comming through, although they hadn't actually cleared the account. She showed me what they were, I couldn't believe it, one was for £119.00 to a online software company and the other was for £396.75 to John Lewis Direct. I told the teller that they weren't mine and to stop them. She said that it was to late, although they hadn't actually cleared my account, they still had been processed and they were unable to stop them, and I couldn't do anything till they had physically cleared my account.
That evening I was able to phone John Lewis Direct who were brilliant and very helpful they were able to tell me that they had realised it was a fraudalent order as my card number had never been used in any of their stores or online before and they were able to stop the order. I told them that the money had gone out of my account, but they said it might show that it was gone but it really wasn't gone, they gave me an ID number to get my bank to get in touch with them and the money would be released from a holding centre. The next day I went to my bank, the online software company had cleared my account and the bank was able to dill in the forms to get the money back which was put back into my account within a couple of days, however the other charge of £396.75 I'm still trying to get back after two more calls to John Lewis they have informed me that my money is in "cyber Space"! and my bank can't do anything because it hasn't cleared the account! although my available balance is £396.75 short. This has been going on for 2 weeks now I spoke to John Lewis Direct the other evening and they have said it should pop back into my account within the next few days that was two days ago.
Has anybody else had the same experience?

Sort of thing happened to me, but it was my fault and the visa verified thing and wrong password. Two payments came out and one was floating in cyper space.

It can take up to 14 working days so no saturdays and sundays for the money to go back into your account.

What happened with me was: The bank had to give me their fax number and the company I bought off(it was a online thing), faxed the bank saying it was a error and the money should be returned to my account. It was the next day.

So John Lewis should have faxed your bank and asked for the money to be returned.

It was the CS in the online company who actually explained the whole thing and what to do.
  • Did you stop the card? If not, do so immediately as someone has obviously got hold of your details.

  • Hi sorry for not getting back sooner, what happened wasn't my fault at all. Somebody had got hold of my debit card details, bank are not sure how it happened, they said that it could of been skimmed at an ATM, and then the card used on line! Any how the whole problem has now been resolved, I got the money back on Monday after 4 phone calls to John Lewis, and them giving out the wrong information, I finally got the money back.:j

  • Hi
My card was blocked as soon as I realised what had happened.
Its scary to think that no matter how much protection you get that people can still get hold of your information.!!
