Changing names on mortgage

My partner and I have decided to split and he will be taking over the mortgage.
He has gone in to the mortgage office and verbally they have said its no problem with him taking it over (he is able to buy me out without increasing the mortgage).
Do you know how long it will take and whether a valuation would be required?
