I've upped my standards...so up yours!0 -
Lidl have them on offer this week - black plastic, but only £4.99:T0

I have one that's never used either bought pre MSE days
I'd wanted it for ages too but once I'd tried slicing some onions & potatoes for a hotpot I decided to stick with my knives - very sharp Sabatier which I also won't let anyone else use Mioliere
My Mum had an orange plastic mandoline for years when I was growing up & I remember her doing lots of cucumber slices to go on a whole salmon and using it a lot when she had dinner parties. I'll give mine another go using less pressure - thanks for the tips :T0 -
Hi all,
I've bought a new Mandoline and in on the lookout for recipes to use it with but all I can come up with is dauphenoise potatoes and I've not got any cream to make those!
What do you use yours for? Any favourite recipes?
Thanks,
Kevin x0 -
it's useful anytime something wants slicing or shredding - I've used mine for coleslaw for instance- it's not so much the recipe as the process.
You can slice carrots for accompanying veg rather than chopping them, ditto cucumber onions white cabbage etc
you can bake sliced potatoes with stock instead of cream alternate layers with thinly sliced onion if liked. Season with salt and black pepper0 -
If you want yto do potatos, do you have any stock? I love boulangere potatos (certainly spelt incorrectly!) which are done in stock, not cream.0

I use my mandolin mostly for vegetables for salads though. For myself I am an optimist - there does not seem to be much use being anything else.
