Reducing my pay/hours by 20 %-Advice

It might not be compulsory. When my last company did this it was voluntary, though in reality no-one turned it down. However a couple of people made special cases and were kept on full hours, and some of the more senior people took 25% cuts so that those of us who were more junior only ended up with a 10% cut. If your manager is approachable, perhaps you could confidentially ask for an exception to be made for you. Explain that you can't work less hours as it will affect your WTC etc, and that you really can't afford a pay cut. You can but ask.0

Hmmm.....well I hope you aren't actually planning on "working" during those workhours you wouldn't be paid for:eek:. Could be wise if you intend to stick to the same number of hours but would get less pay for that time - to spend the unpaid hours just sitting reading or something in the staff canteen. It would add insult to injury to actually work for hours you aren't paid for - and would set a bad precedent to your employers - as they would take it that other people might be prepared to work for a lower rate per hour.
Though I have to admit here - that I would simply refuse to take a paycut in the first place and take the attitude that "whatever will be will be" about their reaction to that - but I'm coming from a different place to where you personally are coming from I know.0 -
The OP needs to work out the total net position. Isn't 16 hours a cut off level for P/T ? and thus associated rights ?Is it temporary and if business improves, will the lost income be repaid ? Are there benefit issues and childcare issues to consider ? More information needed.0

anything over 12hrs is classed as f/t, but p/t staff have the same rights as f/t staff, so this factor has no bearing on the OPs situation
OP, i can see NowWhats point, when they say that by you agreeing to take a pay cut, plus work 16hrs for 13.5hrs (already reduced) pay, you might give the employers an incentive to do this to other members of staff in a similar situation to yourself
in your own case i would suggest that you agree to work the 16hrs for 13.5hrs pay, or take the 20% paycut, but not do both

I can't really refuse as we did an anonymous vote (approx 80 staff) and EVERYONE agreed to the reduced hours and pay..........Basically, if we didnt all agree then they would have to look at other ways to reduce costs ie redundancies, which we have already had about 20 so far this year.0 -

F
Flea, yes I will just be agreeing to one of these.
I will be in the office for the full 16 hours still, but my normal wage will be reduced by 20%.
Hopefully this will lnly last a couple of months until work picks up.0
