"Lynzpower, ye know I have quite alot of stuff that I could e-bay. My ex was rich ( shdve stayed with him, not!) and I've a few expensive bits of jewellery (gucci watch for example) that I don't mind getting rid of. But I'm so crap with computers I don't know how to do it! How silly does that sound? I don't have the box for the watch does that matter? I also have a bike, golf clubs, hundreds of books etc... If I figure it out how long does it take to until you receive the money? "
Its very simple actually, once you get into it. Just have a look around ebay to get a feel of it.
No course it doesnt matter about the box, people are likely to buy anything, as long as its priced right. have a look what similar things are selling for.
theres a 10p listing day tomorrow too
With paypal, you can get the money immiediatley.
For books, why not start off on greenmetropolis.com? Its really easy, and I have made about 20 quid so far, its trickling in but costs nothing to list so you may as well. All you do is type in the number under the barcode of the book and thats it added
then youll get an email when its sold, you print off the recipt page, and send 2nd class. the money goes into your bank as you choose. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Do you ever have any problem with packing stuff when you sell it, that's what my worry has always been packing everything up and then getting to the post office to send it off in time.0

Hi Lynzpower,
I've just listed all my books as you suggested, thanks so much, I'll let you know how it goes.

LittleL wrote:Ms London, that is fantastic! Well done!!!! Looks like it wasn't plain sailing for you either. How long did it take you to clear your debts? And I would have thought your credit score would be great given that you are now debt free etc.. And I hope you have an amzing trip, you deserve it.
Ummm. Well I had my lightbulb moment at the end of 2002 (i.e. couldnt get any more credit), but it took a while to find a job & get myself straight, but paid off about £10,000 last year, and the majority of what was left in 2004 - the rest of the time I was making minimum payments.. This was with having 2 jobs, and even now I have a 2nd job - so its not because I am on fantastic wages or anything, I just have as few outgoings as possible & live on a tight budget.. I am so pleased I am debt free. I was saying earlier I cant believe I have been debt free for 8 months, that doesnt feel right, I still feel as though I am in debt. I dont think it will sink in that I actually have that money as mine, until it comes to not working & spending it - and enjoy it I will
!! It will only take you one time to be debt free, and once thats over you can enjoy the money, as I doubt you'll ever make the same mistake again, the same as I wont.
I do have a capital one credit card (29.9%!!!!), but have cleared it in full each month and want it as back up for when I'm away and to try and rebuild my credit history!!
I have to say that ebay is fab, and it's really helped me out over the last few years!! Once you get the hang of it, its pretty easy. Take some time to have a sort out and you'll be amazed at how much you can make!!
Best of luck - you can do it!! :T :T :T0 -
Well done, you must be really chuffed and a valuable lesson to learn at such a young age :T
I've always been crap with money. Ironically, I come from a family with no debt, my mum and sister pay cash or they just don't buy it. I on the other hand (not now) have the buy now, worry later mentality. They'd have a fit if they knew how much I owed. My sister is just off the phone and could detect I'd been crying. We're really close but I can't tell her the extent of it although I'd love to just let it all out, have a right good cry and be done with it.
I think you're right about e-bay, I'm gonna get my act together and get rid of some stuff and possibly throw in a carboot sale aswell. I think I've lived beyond my means for too long now and it's gonna be hard but I'm determined to get out of this mess and if there's alot of pain along the way then so be it. I'm already feeling it as I can't go to my nephews bday party at the weekend. But sacrifices need to be made in order to achieve my debt free goal

I think you should, IF you think she'd be supportive.
Can you update your SOA - that would probably give us more info to help better?
Obviously, you know to get rid of your most expensive debts first, so won't harp on any more about that. Hope you've cut them all up as well, and close each account as it's cleared so you're not tempted.
I agree you should think you should see about getting interest frozen.
You've been refused a 0% card - OK, but you've still got some very expensive ones there, so how about trying for a low-rate personal loan or a lower-rate CC? Every bit saved on interest will help.
Re your jewellery, if you really want to get rid of it, might get a better deal at an auction house or jeweller's. Worth asking first anyway - will give you an idea how much it's worth.0 -
Hi Tawnyowl,
I applied for a c/c (0%) with HSBC yesterday and am waiting for the result, I should hear within the next few days. They've just increased my credit limit on my H.Nics store card by £1000 (through HSBC) so here's hoping.
Regarding my watch etc... I think you're right I should get it valued first of all and take it from there. It's actually gut-wrenching talking like this but needs must I know. My ex bought me alot of lovely things over the 8 yrs we were together, we split up about 4 yrs ago and have both moved on (i'm living with someone else) , but on valentines this year he got in touch again and wants me back. I've been e-mailing him on and off and he knows about my debt. He told me that he'd sell his house (£800k) and support me.. He wants to retire abroad in the next few years and has invited me along. If I was a different kind of person I'd take him up on the offer, but I'm not, I got myself into this mess and I'm responsible for getting me out of it. I think today my tears had alot to do with my confusion about my life issues aswell. He caused me alot of heartache and I think my fatigue has alot to do with that so I'm most definitely not gonna run back into his arms just for the money.
Sorry for being so emotional and weepy today, but this place is so good to vent off, you're all great!

I am an agency nurse and £25,000 in debt to 10 different creditors.
I rang some of them and arranged reduced payments but found I couldn't even meet the reduced payments. Agency shifts are difficult to find in my area due to the NHS deficit.
I rang CCCS and told them of my situation. We have set up a DMP. My payments to CCCS are £50 per month. This means that my debts will take 42 years to clear!! Obviously this is not a realistic long term option but it has given me some breathing space while I look for a permanent job.
Before I found this site and the lovely people here I was overwhelmed by the debt and the feelings of shame. It was this site that led me to CCCS and I am now looking forward to the future instead of dreading waking up every morning to nasty letters and phone calls from creditors. The phone calls and letters chipped away at my self confidence to such an extent that I became a crumbling wreck.
Feel free to PM me anytime.
