Eastern Euros will live 12 to a house to keep overheads down and send the bulk of the money home. This has been the case for years now they are not interested in putting anything back only the bare minimum. So money has pi55ed out of the UK for years now and they are still doing the jobs of our blokes. Even the gov't admit to getting it wrong !!!!!!. The E E's have taken the cream long ago and many have gone now there's fk all else to milk. I have said this time and time again going back to the better times as well, they did not want to put money back in the system and got away with it. No one on here will convince me this is right.

My husband keeps saying that as soon as it picks up again they will all be back. As I say I don't blame them for taking what the Government have offered them freely but is there any other country in the world who would offer British workers employment before their own people?

Shhhh. You're supposed to say glib things like "Polish plumbers are amazing, they work so hard for half the money." Fair enough, they might do, but that's because they are prepared to live on the cheap for a few years in conditions that someone with a family would not consider viable.

I don't hold a personal grudge against them for doing this, but the way that middle classes (including politicians) only saw it as a wonderful thing and ignored the pressure it put on the uk workers. It's only in the last year or so that it's been socially acceptable to talk about any negative effects of a lack of immigration policy.

The thing is we were told it was really good for the economy but its turned out to be really bad in every way. But no you can't blame them personally. We would do the same if a foreign country was paying high wages and offered them to the British in front of their own people because they wanted to undercut them. We would flock over there in our thousands.

it was me talking about what my kitchen fitter said on the site recently. i need him to do some more work, im going to have to wait until well after new year now. we are in the deep deep south east, but ive had real trouble getting people to get back to me, come and do jobs, they're all too busy.

he said he hasnt noticed any drop off but also added that its because as a plumber he has diversified, doing installations etc etc and that people that dont, may well see a drop in work

Earlier this evening I actually quoted what you said to my husband and said maybe he should diversify and he said maybe but the kitchen fitters he knows are finding it hard to get work. If he loses his job he may try something like that as he can do a very professional job which includes plastering, tiling, laying floors, electrics

And that's only because Labour have, at last, acknowledged they need to 'look' as if they understand how the public feel.

They're running scared as the election looms.

If they get back in, the political mind police are bound to clamp down on us again. Things change very quickly in politics, promises are forgotten - they know they can get away with whatever they want.

Well - it was the building firms, they wanted to undercut their own workers, they wanted cheap prices. Its not the building firms who have taken a cut in their profits, its the tradespeople. Now they have hardly any sites left.

I really can't see them getting back in. I think a lot of people feel very strongly against them. I've voted Labour all my life but now I would rather vote for anyone rather than them. However, I am going to vote Tory because my vote will not be a useless one.

If Labour get back in people will still feel defeated. We need a change of government to bring back some hope and get us on track again.
